Limited Run Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 37)

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Are there any more of these left, or is there another run planned?

I think he will want a break after all this :lol I have my fingers crossed though.

My lever arrived!

Awesome work everyone!

Can't wait to build the new super accurate version, but for now this setup is my old, current V2.

Love the pic!
Looking for guidance.

Question:
In your pic, it looks like the other side of the clamp does not have the side bar. I don't know enough about the saber to know if that's screen accurate. Is it?
I'm guessing you have Roy's block nut on the other side by itself, which is what I'm going to have to do because:

I discovered when I tried to thread Roy's lever into my Roman's replica clamp that the threads don't match. The block nut on Roman's clamp is welded to the side bar Sidebar.jpg
so it's either just go with the block nut alone or try to tap the replica sidebar block nut which I'm not excited to do...

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

That's my question as I noticed this yesterday as well when I tried to screw the Roy lever (very nice work!) into my Romans clamp (I'd like to have the option of a side bar on my V2). What is the threading on the Roman's? Roy's site says his is 5/40.

I saw it mentioned here: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=1862&page=45&p=3653912&highlight=threading#post3653912 that the original Graflex clamp has 5/40 threading. I meant to compare Roy's and Romans to an original clamp but forgot...

I guess if anything, I can Dremel out the nut on the replica clamp bar and epoxy in a 5/40 nut?

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Yes, I've confirmed with Roy that his lever and the original clamp threading are indeed 5/40. He said he'd be looking into the RE clamp he has for sizing. Thanks Roy!

I'm leaving mine alone until I know what's supposed to be on the other side of the saber.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

The other side really is missing the sidebar. In ANH there's a shot of the clamp and you can see the nut all by itself :) this pic was included at celebration.

also, when the emperor is holding it, you can see the rim of the clamp and the missing sidebar.

Great info! Thanks.
Really didn't want to tap the RE sidebar.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Yes, at SWCA this image was presented:
Schermopname (44).png

This is why I supplied the bare nut with the lever.
So no need to tap a new thread in Roman's replica clamp.

I tried it today, and it's correct that the real screw doesn't fit Roman's replica clamp.

Yeah that's screen accurate.
You can see it on the pictures from celebration and in the real V2-thread. There is a comparison of the nuts in the sidebars, too.
Romans doesn't have the right size and are welded in place.
Parks have the right size but are welded, too.
And Graflex nut is press fitted in the sidebar.
So you can imagine that the sidebar fell of during battles from ANH to ROTJ until it got the V2.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

In that V2 thread there's also a paper ad for graflexes that has just the nut. It looks like a lot of folks DIYed their flashes or there were common solutions to missing parts in the 40s for camera flashes. I almost think that clamp was found that way.

Yeah that's screen accurate.

Oh yeah, not disputing that the bar is missing on the original. And I appreciate that the square nut was provided. I am just undecided on if I will display the saber with or without that side bar and slightly idealize it :)

Ok...than maybe you could pry the Roman nut out and solder the nut from Roy in place?

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Edit, read through this page again.

So the nut alone is screen accurate, ok good to know!

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Just thought about this - do you guys file the little tab on the clamps down so that it sits flush on the saber? I imagine they'd get in the way unless there was a slot to accommodate them.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Or drill holes into the side for the clamp tabs to seat into. That way it clocks correctly and won't move.

Hmm I like that idea... but could I pull the trigger on drilling into this fine work?!

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Better to mangle a clamp than a limited run saber IMHO. The clamp will, you know, clamp to the saber, and be secure in whatever position you see fit to place it.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I did the hole thing once. It was okay. The next time I just clipped off the tabs. I want to say that I did something prior to adding the clamp. Maybe a strip of electrical tape around the hilt so that the clamp would have more resistance to turning. Or maybe I added a small piece of two side tape. Either way, movement was not an issue,
