It has the correct Viewer, but not the correct lens.

The viewer is 100% correct.

Most likely... He is the ebay seller that "lost" a Eumig he BIN'd as an ebay seller then sold it directly through his site for $299+.

He knows that there is a market and would rather inflate the prices as a bidder if he knows that locally he can get them cheap and then re-offer them at the artifically inflated pricing. Or he gets is for $175 or so and resells it to us prop guys for $299+.

Pretty lowdown, but there is not a damn thing you can do about it.

Whats funny is that ebay will not let you see his bidding since hes in europe. Gotta love it.

The problem I discovered with the actual Eumig is that it has to have a few mods made to it to allow the lenses to attach. If you look at the few pics available there's definitely a plate that's been fixed to the front.

It's been speculated that the front plates from the real cameras have been removed, cut down and utilized, as they have the reversed threads to allow the lenses to be screwed in, but I think it more likely due to space restrictions they just drilled a threaded hole into this plate.

Since I didn't want to damage or alter the Eumig I had, I temporarily added a front plate onto the Eumig, made a mold and cast it. You can see the plate here.

Now with this piece, I can drill holes into the sides for the dials and knobs without damaging the real camera. I can do the same on the plate for the lenses. In addition, I removed the front of the camera to get access to the clear plastic strip inside and create space for the viewer to be added later.

HOLY CRAP THAT LOOKS GOOD!!!

Man... that's a very clean looking pull!

How many of those "Code Red's" in the top right corner did you go through!

Have you figured out what was possibly used between the Eumig and the viewer? It looks like a hollow "box" of some type with 2 flat head screws that goes right into the Eumig to hold it on?

When working with resin and having to drill holes and tap threads... could you put steel Heli-Coils in for the threads?

I know in some of the racing aluminum heads I work on, I always recommend putting heil-coils in so the threads last alot longer! Especially on the threads for the headers.

I would think heli-coils *could* help the threads last longer and keep from flaking the resin?

Keep us up-dated on your progress! Can't wait to see lenses and a viewer on that!!!

Shawn,

I think you sholud start a whole new topic about the progress of your Macro's replica project!

Jim,

In answer to the first question: Many (it's my only vice).

I actually think the black box might just be the camera in question's top cut off and added on- I'm not sure, yet. Also, I think the small silver dial is a spool from the inside of the Eumig the film wraps around.

Markus, I have a lens, yes.

GREAT PICS!

Now you all see why I worship at the Alter of Shawn Morgan!

(...now..someone with the viewfinder, get in touch with Shawn ASAP so his macro body/lenses won't be so lonely!

Totally superb work Shawn. I can see the texture of the Eumig's body and the battery cover on that pull!
Outstanding!

I think Jim has a good idea here!
I'd love to discuss the 'greeblies' used on the hero!
From a magazine cover recently received from Jim, I can see the large knob on the right side of the hero (as you look at it) has knurling along its top edge.

An update from here.

My Eumig is on the way and I also closed this morning on two of the correct cameras with viewfinders and knobs.

Unfortunately,a s some of you know, not all of them have the correct lenses.

The hunt continues.

Got my Eumig today also..........

All I can say is..........Wheres the rest of it!

Looks like it was a prop in honey I shrunk the kids.

Dont know why but I was expecting something bigger, along the size of the Simrad Binocs.

Jim

I'd don't yet have a Eumig or a casting of one, but I know that when both Shawn and I did scale drawings of the macros before the camera was discovered, I was suprised at the size of the piece based on the general size that we'd both theorized the macros to be.

I think it looks bigger on film because it's often time viewed at an angle, or seen hanging on Luke's belt in front of a big sea of white costume (and Hamill isn't all that big of a guy) so it sticks out.

..or maybe those things just shrink over the years!
