Lost season 6 with spoilers beware

I have a little rumination going, if you like:

I actually started this new blog up to aggregate all thoughts on LOST and other various pop culture stuff that has nothing to do with my business.... and I can tell you I'm stealing wackychimp's "Locke Dressed Monster" for next week and I will be hailed a forward-thinking genius even when I give him credit. :)

Great episode last night. What's with this whole 'claimed' thing? Like possessed or something? I'm guessing that happened to Ben, and they've just said it happened to Claire, though I thought she just disappeared one night. I don't remember her going to the temple... she just got injected with stuff. Do you think it happened to Rousseau? I'm sure that the traps were set by Claire... but why did whoever it was want her?

Another thing that confused me was seeing Claire's doctor in the other time line. He was born on the island, right? Shouldn't his parents have been there and he would be dead? Not sure how all that works out...

I am liking the second timeline with what would have happened to Kate. My husband said he thought the guy who helped her with the handcuffs was an island guy too.

Interesting episode last night. Did anyone catch that creepy Ethan's (Claire's doctor) last name was Goodspeed? Wasn't that Horace's last name too?

I just read the most recent TV Guide Q&A for Lost. The comment from the directors regarding the flashbacks from Seasons 1-5 are no longer pertinent to Season 6 really strengthens my opinion of how Lost and disinterested I am with the show.

I have a feeling that Season 6 is going to be very weak and many people are going to be disappointed with the entire wrap up of the series.

And to have to air last weeks episode with "pop ups" just to explain what was actually happening in the season opener? Come on now! This is just getting to the point of no longer being "mind numbing" TV!

Actually - they've been doing those pop-ups for a while now, not just this season. As for the episodes this season - I haven't found them weak in the least. Flashbacks from previous seasons? Of course they're no longer pertinent - they were used to set up the characters, now that we know how they are/who they are there is no reason to constantly revisit them.

Yes I know the "popup" episodes have been used over and over again but still to have to air the season opener with the same format is ridiculous.

Also saying that the first 5 seasons flashbacks (which I found annoying because it detracted from the storyline) is now "null and void" really makes me think why did we need them in the first place.

I just hope they don't ruin Flash Foward the same way! That series has started off with a bang and let's hope it stays that way!!! At least if they hop all over the place with "flashes" the title gives them the permission to do so.

Ethan as a baby probable left the island with his mother when they were evacuating all the women and children before the "incident" and the bomb detination. If the island has been sunk since then he never would have been able to return to the island.

I think you're misunderstanding the meaning of them saying the flashbacks are no longer pertinent. Some things have changed for the characters on the plane - Hurley's lucky instead of unlucky, Kate may actually be innocent (as she hinted to Claire), Sharon did not return with Boone from Australia. Even minor things changed in that timeline, like Jack being handed one bottle on the plane instead of two. Other things have not changed (though the things leading to them may have) such as John's paralysis or Charlie's drug addiction.

The flashbacks are still the true history of the characters on the island, however - and isn't that the version of events that we still find more compelling, the one that we feel is their true story? I have to believe that the "alternate timeline" will serve to frame the end of the true (island) characters story, to give it context and meaning. The versions of the characters that we know and love continue to have their original backstories.

I wonder what sort of reaction from Sayid would have satisfied the Temple guys. I would've thought that yelling and screaming would have been entirely appropriate. Then again, I haven't been resurrected from a magical pool, either.

I'm guessing that whatever they're expecting (and whatever has presumably happened to Claire) is the same thing that happened to Rousseau's teammates.

Also: when not-Locke was talking about Locke's final moments in the previous episode, he mentions that his thoughts were "I don't unerstand..." that's the same thing that was running through Terry Quinn's character at the end of the "NCIS" episode in which he guest starred.

I agree it's finally getting good. Not sure now if Jacob is really the "good" guy. Interesting show last night for sure.

Loved the Ben Linus eulogy! I've got to have it written in my will for someone to say that at my funeral:lol

My wife is also on the fence whether Not-Locke is good or bad. I'm certain he is the black player, Jacob is the white player. And going back to season 1, Locke told Walt in the game of Backgammon there is only two players - black & white. Claires baby Aaron is really baby Jacob reincarnated. And i'm guessing everyone moved forward in time to 2010, which would make Claires kid 6 years old & would match up to last nights new kid(Jacob).
To win backgammon you have to get all your pieces(oceanic 6) off the board(island). So who will be on Team Jacob & who will be team Not-Locke. One side lives/one side dies. Thats my wife's therory so far, and I think she has some good points:lol:thumbsup(Not that anyone can figure this show out anyway).

I really wonder what not-Locke meant about originally being a man. How do you get transformed into an immortal smoke monster? 'Course, he may well have been lying about that. He's reminding me more and more of the Serpent in the Garen of Eden...

And who was the kid that had him spooked?

I just assumed that he was talking about the last ep of last season, that started with Jacob and the Man in Black sitting on the beach watching the BLACK ROCK sail in to the Island. That Silas from DEADWOOD was his original form, although he can change shape and appear to be Jack's dad, or Ben's daughter, or Locke, or a wispy smoke thingie, he's still playing the black piece in the game he's playing with Jacob.

I actually think Jacob is the bad guy, and the Locke-Dressed Monster is on the side of humanity.

And Mrs. MooCriket has convinced me that the glowy angel kid is Aaron, or Jacob Reborn.

Excellent episode!!! I agree, I haven't been able to wait for the next installment since the beginning of last season. The writers are truly earning their salaries. :)
