Lost season 6 with spoilers beware

I loved last night's ep. One question I have though is in re: the C4.

It makes absolutely no sense that the c4 was planted by ben/ricardos/miles.

It makes no sense that the c4 was planted by Widmore because he knows The Rules. he can't kill candidates.

So either one of the aforementioned parties gets major points off for stupidity or else:

UnLocke had the c4 the whole time. he did grab the watch before stepping foot on the plane.

I dunno...it's not too big a point and it would seem all signs point to widmore but man, if it was widmore he might as well have wrapped the c4 in a box with a note that said "Happy birthday to smokey".

I'm gonna start this off Larry-style:

I BELIEVE THE CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE:

Heh; awesome.

I called the Ji Yeon/candidate thing a few weeks back (and added in Clementine, Aaron, Zac and Emma, too!) but I totally whiffed on Jack being paralyzed.

I have to write up this latest, but I just wanted to say I sure am going to miss Lapidus. Especially since he went out in a Sarlaac pit. Lame. Have a polar bite his head off or something.

All they had to do was separate the C4 bricks away from the detonator and no BOOM! Simple yet too difficult for even Sayid who is an Iraqie soldier to figure out????

This show is getting old but I am still stupid enough to watch. Like waiting for the cereal to be eaten just to find there is no toy at the bottom of the box!

Without spoiling the possible ending for anyone but isn't what Sayid said to Jack before BOOM pretty much tells the ending????

Well, Jack's arc from Man of Science to Man of Faith, coupled with his overwhelming character flaw of having to fix everything sort of makes what Sayid said more of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Ever since the whole "We have to go back, Kate; we have to go back!" thing from Season Three, you always sort of knew that Jack was going to be the last one holding the bag. It's not like the show doesn't start with him; it seems obvious it'd end with him, too.

Unless widmore and smokey were in on it together - widmore wants control of the island so it wouldn't hurt if he were the "last man standing"

I know what you're thinking: "a conspiracy theory behind the backs of the main characters on Lost?!?! never!" :rolleyes

if widmore were actually working with smokey to rid people off the island - widmore could take the island - smokey could get off the island.... widmore would be considered "evil" and it would be a great excuse in the next few episodes to kill him off.

Overall I'm disappointed. I liked Sayid sacrificing himself for the rest. I thought the Kwans died cheaply. Kind of like killing Trinity off in the Matrix trilogy (killed her, saved her, killed her). Why kill them off (Jin) and then bring them back to be killed again without purpose?

When you take 2 leads and kill them off, it feels (to me) like they need to die for something (even if it's something bad like to reveal that Locke's plan was to kill them all along). On this episode they died because they decided to die. :thumbsdown

I realize of course that this is Lost and that they're still alive in the other timeline. I feel, like others here, that they're setting us up for some kind of timeline merger.

Explosives folks: wouldn't 4 bricks of C4 completely annhilate the sub?

I still like Jack's newfound "faith".

Updated theories on characters:
  • Gotta feel like while they'll last till the finale, that Kate and Sawyer are doomed too.
  • Hurley won't die.
  • Jack could die in some kind of struggle between him and Locke. Yin & Yang thing. Bringing balance to the force or whatever.
  • They gotta kill Ben off in a Whidmore vs. Ben showdown. They seem to be mortal enemies. Plus he's too snively to live.
  • Richard? He wants to die. Probably at Locke's hands.
  • Desmond? He may be the loophole in this whole thing with his timeline jumping abilities.
Looking forward to next week's episode!

i didnt really catch the part about Des what did Sayid say?

He told Jack where Desmond is and that he (Jack) needs to find Des becasue Locke wants him dead. He also acknowledges his feeling is that Jack is the candidate by saying "Since it's you..."

It's even cooler than that!

SAYID: There's a well on the main island; a half-mile from the camp we just left. Desmond's inside it. Locke wants him dead, which means you're going to need him; do you understand me?

JACK: Why are you telling me this?

SAYID: Because it's going to be you, Jack.

KA-BOOM!

What stake does Widmore have in the island? Why is a wealthy man who runs a large business in the other parallel timelines and in flashbacks have a need to own or control the island? What are his intentions? Why is he so bent on owning or controlling the bloody rock? Who is he going after? Who is he trying to save? Why does he care who Smokie or Man In Black are?

My head hurtz!

while widmore's intentions aren't quite clear - I can personally see why a successful business man would want control of an island where there are springs that can revive the dead, or where dead people stick around and whisper things, or that can travel through time, or be immune from time, or can't be found....

running any sort of business is nothing compared to the impact this island and it's resources could have on the world (and the money that can be generated from exploiting them)

Just read something interesting over at Larry Young's specularry.com

A guy named Mark Herr attributes characters to the 7 deadly sins and Pandora's box:

Pride-Jack
Lust-Shannon
Gluttony-Hurley
Greed-Sawyer
Sloth-Charlie
Envy-Jin
Wrath-Sayid

Locke-Hope (Locke-Dressed Monster = Anti-Hope or Dispair)

I find this very interesting and would love to explore it some more. I don't really see where Kate fits in and I don't know if I fully agree with Charlie being Sloth... but other than that I'm sold. ;)

Any thoughts?

Mark was talking about first season, so I think you can make a case for Charlie representing Sloth with his rock-and-roll and his drug habit and all. I think it's funny that even here at the end Kate doesn't really fit either with her name being crossed off Jacob's list.

I also like his observation that when the characters go off-model, it doesn't end well for them. That, for example, as soon as Shannon becomes less hedonistic and lust turns to Love, she promptly gets shot.

Well, I thought it was a GREAT episode. Actually left me pretty emotional at the end (big baby) and I thought killing off Frank, Sayid, Jin and Sun was pretty ballsy. Sucked but it definitely explains some things and sets things in motion IMO. It proves that the Smoke-ness Monster has been lying all along and just wanted to kill them all (but couldn't do it himself) and it proves who AREN'T the true candidates.

I don't get the bomb working only if they pull the plugs/mess with it/whatever.

Earlier this year, Richard tried to blow himself up with dynamite and it failed. Jack sat right there with him and said he'd wait it out and knew it wouldn't blow because the island wasn't done with him or whatever.

Maybe it's you can't die if you have faith in the island? You have that scene, though. Then, FFW to last night. The assumption that locke can't kill them because smokie can't kill candidates i can buy. But, if you can't kill yourself (richard, michael), why would Sawyer's pulling the plugs make the bomb go off it it otherwise wouldn't? Is the logic that the candidates can kill each other, but not themselves? And if so, everyone on the sub could have died because the island was done with sawyer, so he could kill himself, and thereby his actions can take out the rest?

Uh, yeah, I think so. That was my take, anyway. :)

At the very least, if Sawyer followed Jack's advice then I believe the bomb would not have gone off.
