Lost in Space

SO i have looked at build ups of the Jupiter 2 models. I do not build myself, but wondered who does the best. I saw GEMINI MODEL BUILD-UP STUDIOS does a full build with lighting and special effects. Does any one know them? Is their build good etc? I wish I had the talent and space to try but alas I do not.

Looking for opinions, no fights please! LOL

Aquaman, I'm in the same boat! Loved Lost in Space as a kid! Would love one of these builds! But no space and no skill. And probably not enough $$ to have one built.

Aquaman,

Why bother seeking out someone to build it for you? I don't know what anyone would charge you for building one but if you can afford it then Moebius Models is offering a completed "Metal Jupiter II". Here's some info:

Moebius Models: High Quality Extremely Detailed Plastic Model Kits

If you can afford it of course. I've shopped around online and there's vendors offering it for several $100 dollars under the retail price. You might check it out.

Good to know, Tymer. Thanks! $1500, eh? Do you know if this "Metal" one is different in any way than the regular kit, other than the metal?

As a followup, this will be released in May-June. It's available as a pre-order from Mega Hobby for $1,185 plus shipping.

Aquaman,

From what I've read this is the same size as the all plastic 18" kit version already avaialble. To me its a perfect size for display and not too large to take up alot of space. It says the hull and landing gear is all metal which to me is sweet. If you factor in the $90 to buy the model kit and all the lighting conversions, acid etched details, accurate decals and such I'd say you'd have about a ballpark of $500 - $600 invested just in parts then add whatever some talented modeler would charge and I think the all metal one is a bargain since the metal parts would be a bonus over the plastic kit parts. Hadn't seen one of these in person but if the pictures are an accurate indication I'd buy it if I had the money....just my opinion.

wow that looks sweet! Wondering if it has the lighting I have seen in build ups? Also wonder if it can be modified to add such things?

I was originally looking for someone to build up a Moebius for me but like TymerDC says, by the time you add in all the costs it it "almost" the same as the prebuilt with the extra benefit of a metal hull/legs. I believe they are even using the VoodoFX lighting kit that is available for the plastic build it yourself version.

You might want to contact BeatlePaul here on the board. He has offered build up services in the past and his J2 looks awesome. Nice guy to boot!

Damn! Looks like the wallet is gonna take another hit!

i wish I could seer the metal one and how it compares to all the others!

Yes, I too wonder how the $1,185 "ready built in China" metal J2 looks compared to a $2,000+/- custom built job... mostly when it comes to the interior lighting and paint.

yes. I mean these builds I have seen are amazing. Working computer lights, figures etc...simply amazing. Don't think the china one will compare. Although I do like the metal part. But it weighs in at like 20 lbs!

One thing to keep in mind is that it's very hard to judge craftsmanship from photos unless they're uber close-ups...

yes i know! Thank god for forums like these where we can get opinions and pics etc to really know....

Aqua man, I think you should build it yourself. I know projects like this look daunting but all it really takes is time, discipline, and the will to do it. I have no real skill compared to many of the guys here, but I challenged myself to build a 1/350 PL enterprise and I am amazed at how it is turning out. I am still no ware close to being finished but I have forced myself to persevere. When it is finished I will have a labor of love that I can be proud of. But what I did not think about when I started was how interested I am in other monumental kit like the Jupiter 2. At each stage I have learned and I hope I have helped others by chronicling my build here. Before this kit I have never really been serious about model building. This experience has been therapeutic and fun at the same time. So my advice is to dive in and build it yourself. The cost is low, the space needed is a table, and the tools needed are few. In a kit like the Jupiter 2 you would learn a lot about model building, scratch building, electronics etc... The benefit of building it yourself is way under rated. I think you would surprise yourself. Just my 2 cents...

thank u for that! I really would like to. Unfortunately, I live in NYC in an apartment. No real space for anything like this. One day a house and then yes! Thx
