Lost in Space - Judy and Major West costumes

Just in time for Dragon*Con (okay, so I still have a few weeks left) I'm winding down on costumes for myself and my boyfriend. We actually started before we knew Marta Kristen and Mark Goddard were going to be there.

It was tough getting colors just right and, as with most TV/movie costumes, (especially the older stuff) we just picked whatever color we believed was the closest and went with it. I found this picture on a LiS website:

I don't think the turtleneck is the same one she wore...the color just seems too vibrant for something so old. But I went with it and this is what I came up with:

I used Kwik Sew pattern 3576 and just modified it to match...mostly. The seams aren't exact, but overall it has the look I was going for. The boots don't exactly match either and they had some goofy Flower Power appliques I had to remove, but until I find a pair of white boots I can paint/dye a matching color, they'll do. I was able to find a pair of tights that kind of bridge the colors of the dress and the boots, so they're not so glaringly different.

Today I finished the collar on my boyfriend's tunic. That thing was NOT fun but I survived and he's happy with it. I'll probably put his pants together closer to Dragon*Con. He's still searching for the right boots...he's found something close on eBay (motorcycle calf-high boots) but he's holding off for now. He's hoping to get a blaster/laser pistol sometime soon.

That's all for now on these costumes. Now to get to work on some Airwolf flightsuits!

Dig those mod threads, space chick! They're cosmically groovy!

Wellington boots were used in the series, and the correct style used to be extremely easy to find. Not so these days I guess, but those things were built to last and I wouldn't be surprised if you managed to score a used pair on ebay. Happy hunting.

wow they came out beautiful!! I have always wanted to go in the silver space suits and the red holster with the ray gun. i love lost in space 4 ever!

Those are Killer!

I am thinking of doing Dr. Smith's 3rd Sesson costume for Dragon*Con myself.

Hey Roger, it's Dani...of Art and Dani! That'd be awesome if you could get together a Doctor Smith costume for D*C. Art was saying he mentioned to you we might do this costume...I'm happy to say I was able to pull it off. We'll hafta get in touch before the convention.

Thanks for all the compliments, guys! I was a little worried I would get a whole lotta chirping crickets on this thread since it's "old school" and my first thread got a lukewarm response. And thanks for the tip on the boots, CarsonDyle. I'll cruise eBay and see what we can come up with.

I've been on the hunt for a good silver lyrca/stretch lame' for the flightsuits. I could've sworn I've found something that was PERFECT once before...but I probably just imagined it. I absolutely want to make the silver suits one day.

EXCELLENT job!!
I've always wanted to do a FIRST season Dr. Smith with those elusive tunic colors. Bluish? Burgundy?
