Looking for something new to work on

With the vast amount of stress in my life right now, I need something to work on that can help me take my mind off of things.

About ten or so years ago I used to be really into building Gundam brand models, that's really how I got into the hobby and wargaming in general. But I'm so far removed from those things that, when I go and look at models at the shop I have no idea what I'm looking at nor do I care for the design choices that the artists and models took when they designed the machines.

Is there such a thing as a bipedal-tank/mech - kit/model that isn't so spindly or fragile looking? Along the lines of Mechwarrior/Battletech/Hawken or Chromehounds? Or even from the Gundam universe itself?

I've been looking at my local shops and on ebay but to no avail.

I have a 1/350 scale Enterprise refit that's waiting for my attention, but I'm not going to start on that until after my wife and I can get moved into our new house.

Hmm...

Have you considered Maschinen Krieger?

MaK models are generally armored fighting suits in 1/20 scale; slightly larger than 1/35 standard military figures, but smaller than your common HGUC Gundams.

They are generally bulky and rounded looking, with hoses and cabling on the arms and legs, and look something like WWII in an alternate reality.

Nothing exactly like a walking tank, though the PaK Krote is close. Spindly legs, though.

Another alternative that comes to mind is Gasaraki. They produced three mechs about ten years ago. Humanoid walking tanks, very angular.

One other thing that comes to mind is Armored Core. They have a series of robots as well, looking loosely like Gundam.

Another alternative would be the Macross / Robotech stuff. Some of those designs are quite similar to your Battletech mechs; big, bulky things with stout legs.

After having to redo my entire Blood Angles Army due to a mishap with the movers we hired, I am kinda looking for something taller/bigger.

There are those of us who work on smaller scale mech stuff as well. N-scale is my preferred medium as I can have big battleships and spaceships while still having a few hundred robots in the same scale hanging around.

Some new gundam stuff here before painting and such.

There's big battletech and mechwarrior models too, and armored core has a line, and there's beautiful resin gundam kits if you want to push the limit on big kits not available in graded form.

Most of the good new UC stuff is from Unicorn IMO.

There a couple good build threads of this model on the RPF.

I'm about to start it myself.

Ooh!

Me likey.

Thanks for the suggestion.

EDIT: if its allowed, the once my model gets here I'll post a build thread.

Which one are you looking at? Some of the perfect grades can cost over $300 and have 600 parts. If your looking for a cheaper version look at the 1/100 master grade, they cost under $100 an still have 300 parts

when ever i am needing something to build i just start throwing scrap pieces together and go from there.

I was able to snag the MS-06S Char's Zaku 2 off of Amazon for just under $150.

It's been a long time since I've built a model and I'm really looking forward to getting back into building. I have bunches of the MG Gundams from several years ago, I was an impatient teenage when I built them so they look awful.
