great ideas......I hate to cut up a tie wing....Yeh it is so small you could get by with that,,good idea to pharchivist

It reminds me of flourescent diffuser grid for drop ceilings. I took a quick look at plastruct, but I suck at using their search tool. They carry 1/24 scale and that type of diffuser should be available from them. Might give them a call.

Along the DIY route,
If sculpting and casting is out, then I was thinking you could take styrene bar stock and notch out one side. It would look like dental molding on one side, but the "teeth" would be skinnier.

Then edge glue the bars together to make the grid.

Another route, would be to mark off styrene and use a punch. The punch would have to be hand made, I imagine. Possibly by bench grinding steel rod? Problem would be if there is no place for the waste material to go it would end up distorting

A decent train shop will likely sell small little add-on parts (vents, grills, etc) for trains. These are an excellent source of generic parts.

How about the stuff used for screen doors,or maybe something photo-etched Tamiya has for one of its 1/35 scale WWII tanks?

Robs' idea is really close to what I'd do as well! Or, you could just scribe this pattern onto a piece of sheet styrene, then cut it out,and glue it to a resin,or wooden block. I made the mount for my X-wing on top of the deathstar tile I made out of cherry, and the radiator on the side of it is made out of a popcicle stick cut in half with the ends cut off. I covered this with pieces of sheet styrene.
