I think this goes in the costuming section; it's really more of a costume part than a prop, although it will be full of props when I'm done.

I'm making a Jack Sparrow wig, so that is the overall objective. I know I'm using Kanekalon for the hair, a good synthetic, instead of real human hair, and I have a good place to get it. I know I'll be using wool dreads, and have a source for the roving wool in the volume I need. I don't know where to get the netted cap/ wig base thing that the hair will attatch to. Can you buy those by themselves?

Any tips would be great.

I would get a dark Kankleon Wig to start with, then no worries on the netting etc. Remember to use various colors, Jack's hair is not all black and dark brown.

Good luck, I made my first jack wig but I am looking at buying one on the evilbay for my next one. I have all my dingles and coins, leather etc I just don't have the time to make a new wig.

I made my own Jack Sparrow wig out of Kanekelon fibers. What I actually used as the wig cap was a pair of pantyhose with the legs cut off and those hole sewn shut. It worked quite well. However, I will admit that ti is pretty tedious hand-tying all that fiber, so a pre-made wig might be an easier starting point.

I made my pirate wig from a womens long wig that I got off ebay. I also bought dredd clips, tore them apart, and sewed them into the wig to make it custom. Mine is a sandy blonde color to match my natural hair, I was going for the feel, rather than the dead on accurate look.
