Lightweight Mold Jacket Ideas?

Gone but not forgotten.
Normally, I make resin jackets for my bigger molds, but right now resin's at a premium and it takes forever anyway.

I'm thinking of trying polyester (fiberglass) resin and cotton batting for a fast build up, or maybe thinned carpenters glue laminated with old t shirt cloth.

Anyone know any other tricks?

Thanks!

Fiberglass resin should work fine. I wouldn't use cotton though. I would use fiberglass cloth. You shouldn't need to make it very thick that way. Just a few layers of cloth will be rock hard, and light.

agreed, polyester resin and fiberglass is light and cheap

i usually do 2-3 layers of fiberglass matte (stronger than cloth) and one layer of cloth on the top to give it a nice surface. i also drill holes in the flange and use 3/8" bolts and wingnuts to hold the mold together, much tighter seal than straps or bands, which gives you little to no seam lines

you can pick all that stuff up at home depot or lowes

I know, I just hate working with fiberglass. it gets everywhere, it's sticky, it stinks... :sick

I was just wondering if anyone knew any offbeat shortcuts.

HI Sarge,

If you can take the time you can all so use vacumform jackets. I have done this if I have alot of time and little money in a project.
