Lighting Firefly/serenity

I got the GAMBODY 3-D model, and there are openings to do the spinning ring effect. I assume I should be doing this with chasing LEDs but I have not been able to find any guides, lighting kits or anything else.

Basic soldering is my limit and I have a very poor understanding of electrical circuits. I can follow instructions :) I have no ability to program either, so if you tell me to get an Arduino, you're gonna have to tell me what to do with it :)

Yes I realize I'm the anomaly here, but anything to do with math typically doesn't go well :)

thank you very much in advance

Can you post any pictures? This sounds like an interesting project and I'd like to see more of it. Thanks.

right now it's just a pile of parts, the actual ring does not spin on this model but it does have holes where you can run an LED strip light. My idea was that I do that and run it in the chase pattern but it looks like that might not be possible due to limitations of LED strip light technology. The only lights it seems to be missing is the green and red navigation markers

In the dead center of the ring have it plug into a cable that powers it. It can spin endlessly

Use wheels on the inner rim of the spinning wheel to hold it in place

so if I'm understanding correctly what you're saying is that I shouldn't try to line the outside with the LED tape, I should instead wrap it around a circular object and attach that to a motor that will spin it for me? as you can see from the pictures I added, the spinning area is a solid piece of plastic

Take a look at a slip-ring for the center to handle your wiring and for your lighting, look at addressable LEDs (Neo-pixals) for your engine effect, controlled by an Arduino. The first video shows how completely you can control your LEDs, the second video shows how well a "slip-ring" can
allow you to spin the engine ring's wiring for ever.... But, if you want to put the LEDs on the outside, look at these.

if you have a twirling ring with lights, have its power carried thru the center, it can spin endlessly.

When I am done doing reality stuff, i will do a better drawing for you.

Your print looks great!

teslabe WUNNERFULL!!!!
