By the way, I think a studio scale ship would be like 2 or 3 meters long.

Well, since he built the sets as two long floors, wouldn't the SS be a very large Warehouse in size? :angel

WHO is producing these licensed replicas? I'm super curious.

Licensed props can come out any time. Look at the motion tracker.. hahaha. Little more than a year.

Why does everything have to be limited editions... waaaaaah... that cuts me out of the race... 'cause the prices will be too high... :cry

I don't think it's MR... ;)

God I hope it's not MR that's making them...

I'm not sure what to think about this. Personally, I don't like MR because most of their products are out fo my price range (well, it's more than I want to spend anyway). However, we at least have a good idea what to expect out of a Master Replicas' release. Something of a "Better the evil I know, than the evil I don't know" situation. I suppose it's not worth worrying about it. Who ever is doing the release is going to do it reguardless of my opinions or credit card limits.

I'd like to second the statement about disliking limited releases. To my mind, all they do is artificially drive up the price. Exclusivity holds no value to me. I honestly could not care less if I'm the only kid on the block with Mal Reynolds pistol. Everyone else in the world can have two for all I care, just so long as I get one. Perhaps this holds some level of protection for the license holder's investment? Serenity didn't perform as well as was hoped at the box office. Maybe they think by making this a limited run they guarantee to sell the entire run thus making a confirmable profit (as confirmable as possible anyway) before the items even hit the market?

I think I'd like to see MR do it, it's probably the only way we'll get a metal gun. I already have a resin cast of the original pistol, and I don't really expect to see a decent paintjob from someone like Neca or Sideshow.

Yeah...as financially unsound as it may be (for us, at least), MR might be the best avenue. I just hope against hope that it's not a super-limited edition kind of thing.

Hey folks IÂ’ve been able to come up with a little more inforamation from the electronic press kit for the Serenity props, I like the sound of everything I'm reading and I like the price point which is well within my buget even if I bought the signature edition, enjoy.

Serenity™ Mal Pistol (Information Subject to change)

For the first time anywhere, an exact, licensed replica of the shiniest sidearm in the ‘verse is finally available. Fully-licensed and authorized by Universal Studios, QMx has been given access to the original prop molds to produce this incredible replica of Captain Malcolm Reynolds’s trusty sidearm. This is the third piece in our incredible line of licensed replicas of props, gadgets, and vehicles from the movie, Serenity.

Each replica is proudly made in the USA and is cast in a special, reinforced, super-durable resin that is highly resistant to shrinkage, breaking, or bending. Absolutely no “cleanup” or “idealization” has been done. The replicas will literally be identical in appearance to the original prop. To further replicate the look of the original hero prop, each model is generously plated in copper and brass and given a black-antiqued finish. Shiny.

But waitÂ…ThereÂ’s more. Each model also sports genuine wood grips and die cast and machined metal details. The heavyweight resin used for each model, in combination with the heavy layer of copper and brass plating, gives each Mal pistol replica a cold-to-the-touch feel and a solid heft (somewhere north of two pounds, weÂ’re figurinÂ’Â…)

To enhance the value of your Mal pistol replica, each model will come in a beautiful presentation package, featuring the Serenity™ logo and a velvet-lined tray. A shiny acrylic display stand is also included that will hold your replica upright in a display position. Each package also comes with a numbered, limited edition, full-color metal plaque featuring the Serenity logo, edition number, and edition size. Anything less is gorram junk.

Strictly limited to 1500 units worldwide. And thatÂ’s it. We mean it. Once this run is sold out, no other replicas (in any form) will ever be produced by Qmx, so donÂ’t be noodlinÂ’ too long and act fast. Once these are gone, they could fetch some hefty cash on the secondary Federation market.

SER-003 Edition size: 1500 TLE units SRP $249 Estimated shipping and handling (in the US): $25
Note: Signature edition size: (Pending approval) 250 units. SRP $299

Keep in mind folks that this is privileged information and that the company does not even launch until the end of this month. (see the stuck press release)

Hmmm... That's a better price than what I was expecting. I have to admit that. I was expecting somthing in the $400 range and well beyong my price range. Still, it's right on the bleeding edge of what I'd want to spend. I would certainly prefer all metal to plated resin, but I'm sure an all metal replica would have wound up in the $400+ range I was expecting.

I'll need to see pics and the release date before I make a decision. I am encouraged to see it under $300 for the final price though. I wonder what the odds are of a dealer going below MSRP or offering free shipping? If I could get it at or below $250 for the final, tax/shipping included, price I will probably get one. A $200 final price would a definite purchase.

damnation WHY do they have to limit the run? WHY?

i want a mal pistol, id pay the price above for a resin plated painted one thats official.

but i dont feel like fighting the secondary scalper market in order to try and get one.

at least the price point is good.

As cool as that sounds, I doubt I'd end up getting the Mal Pistol, I'm quite taken with my own work. But who knows what else they might be producing that could be cool.

Well, now that the web site is listed and states that it will eventually take pre-orders, I would hope there wouldn't be any NEED to have to get this on e-bay when we can order it directly from the company for retail cost.

Thanks for the info -- looking forward to this with great interest.

I know who this is, the name sealed it. Interesting. The Mal pistol sounds good, guess I'll have to pre-order.
