Lawgiver MkII scratchbuild (UPDATE pg. 2)

I started building one about 2 years ago, but never really got past the first stage, so it sat in a box all this time. I recently found it again while cleaning up my workshop and thought I'd take another crack at it. The only thing I kept was the wooden core and re-made the rest. After about a week and a half, this is how close I am to finishing it:

Yep, it's from the comics, not the movie version. Built from the usual sheet styrene and PVC pipe.

Nice to see comic props.

Well if you liked that, wait 'til ya see the slew of goodies I have lined up in the near future. :D

Re: Lawgiver MkII scratchbuild

Manoman. You guys who scratch build with styrene sheet and pvc amaze me sometimes. That just looks awesome. WOW.

Re: Lawgiver MkII scratchbuild

I'm bumping this, cuz that's how I roll. :cool

Re: Lawgiver MkII scratchbuild

:lol Well Nex, the master is primed and ready to go, all I have to do is mold it and do a test casting. Then I can paint the copy and post a few pics of it... perhaps by next weekend? ;)

Re: Lawgiver MkII scratchbuild

That looks really nice! :love

If you decide to sell it as a kit, I'd be in for one!

Re: Lawgiver MkII scratchbuild

Been having a few problems with silicone suppliers lately, but I finally received my orders and started molding the gun today! :D

Re: Lawgiver MkII scratchbuild

Alrighty, finally got this puppy molded and cast! Even though there were a few minor hiccups along the way (see pics below), I think for a first attempt at molding a gun, it turned out fairly well. :) Keep in mind that all these casts are straight out of the molds and I only removed the flash from the main body to see how well it fit together.

I plan to add some electronics inside (if I ever figure out how to do it and what to use), so I made the casting of the main body hollow. Since this was just a test pull, I used some old Smooth-Cast 321 I had sitting around. As you can see, there were a few bubbles that got trapped, but I'll figure out how to combat that problem later (could just be the age of the resin):

It seems to line up pretty good, so no worries there (please excuse the tape):

I'm sure you've noticed by now that there was a slight mold issue. One of the inner molds leaked over into the outer mold during the night! :cry Fortunately, it's not a total disaster and is fixable with a little filling during the build process. Also, it didn't seem to hinder the fit of the 'targeting sensor' piece, so I think I'm good to go:

It shouldn't take me long to build and paint it (I'm skipping the electronics stage for now), so stay tuned to see how it all turns out! ;)

Great stuff, man! But if it isn't too much trouble, can you direct me to a site or give me a quick rundown on how to make a hollow two part mold such as yours? I'm looking to cast a gun of my own and I don't feel like making it a solid piece.

Thanks in advance!

Looking good! :thumbsup

Any idea of a price yet?
