Latex mask repair

Anything I can do to more permanently repair a four-inch rip in a latex mask besides taping it from the inside with vinyl tape?

If its a latex mask (not foam latex) you can dip paper towels or cheese cloth in latex and patch from the inside. Once you complete the inside, you can than mix some cabosil into the latex to make it thicker, than blend areas from the outside. By thickening the latex, you can also carve in details and texture as well. Work the same way as if you are blending dry wall seams. It has worked pretty well for us in the past.

Thanks! Right after I kill my friend who ripped my mask.

I have asked Tom for help before. And he said he wouldnt help but, I could hire him to do the repair. Just a heads up.

good old superglue sticks latex like you wouldnt believe altho it is brittle. all bhsfx said is good advise too. you can mix prosaid with cabosil for a filler too

Well, it IS his business. The worst he can say is what he did, but if I were in a pickle, I would surely pay for his knowledge.

I had some bad rips along seams in my latex torso so what I did was got some thick latex cut offs, held the seam together and then glued a latex strip into the inside. Once it was dry i then put liquid latex over the seam and the new latex strip to let it all fuse together as best it can.

It has held well, i just did several coats (after all it wont be seen on the inside) as for the outside though, as a bhsfx suggested is the best way to keep detail on the outside but dont be afraid to line the seams with extra liquid latex to help strengthen it

It's that Cap mask I got from you, too. Lesson Number One: drunk friends putting their own thumb up under the ear of the mask and pulling straight across the head is not the proper way to treat Fettster's hard work.

Seriously, there should be a "Drunk Friend" insurance clause/rider. Sorry to hear, Larry - and hope you can get 'em to make right on the damage.

thing is Fetts cap mask is urethane not latex. you would need to repair it with more urethane , Rich shoukd be able to advise on the type. guessing its pt flex but wich shore ?

Aw, crap; I was afraid of that, because the superglue didn't work at all. I'm just going to have to get another one.

Which, I will say, is damned worth it. That's a great piece of work.

Yeah, you'll likely never be satisfied with a urethane rip repair. Just no way to hide it like the latex tricks that have been discussed. If you can live with the blemish you can do a spandex or stretch netting patch from the inside. For glue Smooth-on sells a product called Urebond or a product called Aquaseal also holds to urethane real well.

A pal of mine reminded me I never followed up with what I did:

The thinking is if Cap ripped his mask in the field, he'd just stitch it up with boot laces and go back to punching Nazis. :lol
