Largest collection of vintage movie posters and lobby cards to be auctioned in 1 lot

Renowned Entertainment and Historical Document auction house, Profiles in History, has announced today they will be holding a very special auction featuring an unprecedented collection of the largest and most comprehensive collection of movie posters, lobby cards, and ephemera.

The Morris Everett Jr. Collection comprises of over 196,000 vintage, rare, and one of kind movie posters, lobby cards, and ephemera from just about every Hollywood film to date. Profiles will be offering this historic collection to one lucky bidder in one lot of the entire collection. The pre-auction estimate is$6,000,000 – $8,000,000.

Mr. Everett’s hope is that the buyer of that the collection will continue adding to it like he has for decades.

That is a very low estimate for that many items. Of course it really depends what is in the lot but that Metropolis lobby card has me drooling. Can't wait to see the catalog.

I doubt it'll go in one lump but I'm curious to see what all is in the collection.

I saw some of the items when I was in CA a month or so ago and it was pretty impressive.

It would be great if the Academy Museum acquired the collection so everyone could eventually see it when the museum opens in 2017.

I did the math (not my best subject, mind you, ), and it comes to about $35 an item. There's no way any of the posters or lobby cards would sell for $35 bucks each individually. More like thousands and tens of thousands.

Amazing collection this man amassed during his life.

Problem with that thought is that AMPAS already owns one of the largest collections of poster art on the planet pegged, at 50,000 pieces. It has been the one area where they were not slacking while the rest of us were chasing costumes and props. Still, a heavy hitter could scoop up the collection, round out the missing pieces for AMPAS, and sell the rest - which would, of course, defeat Morris' hope they would all stay together. His goal, for decades now, was to have one piece from every movie made, even though he knew it would be impossible to complete, but he started early enough, got the great hoard when no one cared, and has fed it all his life. Really, the end of an era.
