Large R/C Godzilla Restoration Need some Help!

Hey guys, just picked up a super large Remote Control Godzilla from Japan, Hes massive, almost 2 feet high and 3 feet long. Its model of sorts with a removable internal skeleton and a very accurate outer rubber suit.

Heres my questions

1. In order to fit the skeleton into the rubber suit(I think its latex based?) a incision had to be cut in the back of the neck and then is suppose to be resealed with rubber glue. I would like to reseal this cut, but wanted recommendations on the best glue/adhesive that would not damage the rubber/latex. Here is a picture of the area I mean.

2. Some areas of the suit are really thin, like the elbows, the rubber is not torn but I would like to reinforce these areas from the inside. The first picture is from the inside looking at the elbow and the second picture is the same area, just with a light shining from the outside at that area to highlight the thinness of the rubber. What could I use here?

Lastly, I need a recommendation of something I could potentially condition the rubber suit with to keep it in nice and flexible shape. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Cool looking piece!

Without handling the piece first-hand, it's tough to say for sure but Barge contact cement is always a good suggestion.

You might try using some sort of fabric patch on the inside (not sure how feasible that would be, but that would give you more surface area to glue than just that thin edge).

Ask around with the guys who do rubber superhero suits... they may have some good suggestions as well.

best,
Tom

Mmmmmm... If you're sure it's latex, you could just glue it back together with some plain mask latex. It would take awhile to dry, so you'd have to clamp it in place overnight to cure.

If it's not latex, peel off the latex and maybe try flxible superglue from a good hobby shop. :confused

Good Luck!

Whatever you do, keep it out of the sun; indirect sunlight; or too much light!

I have a beautiful G-64 head (Mosu-Goji) that cracked on the top of the head. It was on top of a 6' bookshelf, in-direct sunlight. Probably made from the same stuff as yours (I've seen/ felt the robotic dai-kaijus in person).

Don't know what to use to fix mine either, but it's been in a cardboard box ever since the damage happened :(

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I have a plan of attack.

1. Glue - 3m Super Weatherstrip Adhesive
Super Weatherstrip Adhesive Waterproof Size 5 oz Black Temp Range -40 to 176 F Curing Time 60 Min Application Time 30 Sec VOC Content 61 Viscosity 7500 to 9500 Specific Gravity 0.9 Substrates Aluminum Steel Brass Copper Rubber Plastics PVC ABS Polycarbonate Acrylic Fiber Reinforced Polyester Strong Flexible Rubbery

Im going to use this glue to the neck cut and then some cheese cloth on the inside under the cut for reinforcement. Thoughts?

2. Black Liquid Latex inside the suit to go over the thin areas of the suit for reinforcement. I found this place online with a jar of black stuff that looks like it will do the trick?

Thoughts?

3. Future Protection - 303 aerospace Protectant

This product has gotten rave reviews in the automotive world for UV protection for rubber surfaces. I would ASSUME this would work well on this godzilla, I have gotten confirmation it is LATEX rubber based, so I am hoping this will react well with it? Thoughts?
