Lando Wrist Comm FOUND PARTS

Looking to start a build on Lando’s wrist communicator seen in ROTJ. I’m thinking it appears to be a leather cuff, with a vac-formed main body. Then decals for details and the center could light up with LED’s... any ideas?

That’s what I thought too. I have a few metal ones from my Boba gauntlets left over. The only thing that pops out to me is the ball shape in the middle of the expander is missing. It could just be the blur of the photo quality, but if it is the dental expander I will size this up in adobe illustrator and print it out full size. The original dental expander was .5” tall. This seems MUCH too big for this prop.

Looks like a long bubble strip on the bottom..

Fun project!!

Throw a small arduino if you want to do some fun electronics stuff with the leds..etc.. (or just a simple coin cell battery, resistor and led for simple circuit.)

Absolutely. The guard helmet at the beginning of ROTJ has to be one of my favorite helmets in the OT. Lando’s entire wardrobe is just great.

Don't know about the actual comunicator but the leather cuff seems like thick crude leather that's been died before cutting (you can kind of make out the lip or the sides or whatever it's called still being clear undied crude leather) and probably waxed for shine. There's a scene in the movie where you can see how the cuff attaches on the backside:

It's flipped up because the image was flipped in the movie I think, but it's the same cuff

yup, I don't know which is truly reversed (the OP image or the one where he's waving) but one of them is definitely flipped. the badge on the chest, and the direction of the seem on the shirt are reversed in the two images.

The take was reversed on the final cut, I've just checked the movie. Taken from moviemistakes.com:
When Lando says "Go on, you pirate" his entire outfit is reversed - his shoulder holster strap goes the other way, and his rank insignia changes side too.
They must have filmed it without Harrison on set :lol
So as long as the top strap of the cuff looks to the outside you should be good. Also those look like regular grommets with some leather cord sewn over.

That's a row of 12 yellow rectangular LEDs along the bottom edge on both sides. Same as the LEDs in the Zenza viewer on the Carbonite block.

Tom, that is a Vader/Fett dental expander. The little shiny round thing(s?) facing his fingers are Borden connectors like on the Fett helmet cheek.

huh, I just looked at it again, and it's not just one piece of leather that wraps around itself. it's the main body that goes around his wrist, and meets with itself at the underside of his wrist, then a rectangle that hooks to both ends with two grommets per side, for 4 grommets total

I could be wrong, but I also only see one piece of continuous leather for the wrist wrap. I see the four grommets with a leather lace for closure method.

all of those metal parts are smaller than I ever imagined! (never holding them myself) I also only seem to find long borden connectors, and only plastic washers that correct size

Had to upload these before the upgrade tonight on the forums... found these in Brandon Alingers “Star Wars Costumes- The Original Trilogy” book earlier. Definitely confirms which arm it is on and the colors involved..
