Kolchak: The Night Stalker - His Gear

No thanks!

It will never match the original, certainly not McGavin or Oaklands performances.

Those men OWNED those roles

Just saw an advert on IGN for Johnny Depp playing Kolchak in a new Nightstalker movie.

I know this is an old thread (people are coughing from the dust), but I working on a Kolchak costume for DragonCon 2013. I have a hat (close approximation) and are purchasing the small stuff like the camera and recorder. The suit is... Problematic. I can't find a great picture to give me full detail. I assume it is white (primary) with blue lines. Though, the modern incarnation appears thicker lines than normal.

I'll post a pic of the hat when I can get access to my photobucket account.

Suit acquired. Camera still has a few days on eBay. Shoes and watch await for another paycheck.

I'll post the hat on the hat thread for those interested. Thanks for the help.

Here's my attempt at Kolchak:

There is something with the brim of the hat bugging me. I can't describe it. But it isn't "quite" right. Anybody have a pic from a similar angle?

Well, the brim doesn't swoop up quite as sharply as the hat I based it on (The robot episode). It also has dimples at the top. I'm aware of these issues. I needed the hat as soon as I could for a horror convention.

I couldn't figure out what was wrong, but something just looked off. thank you for telling me, I can see the difference now.

Speaking of cameras. I thought it was odd that Fox Mulder in The X-Files (a show inspired by Kolchack The Night Stalker), NEVER carried a camera.

Man it's been a long time since I've been here. Happened to be looking for something else and stumbled upon a suit and hat here, Cecil Bonnifield - Huckster After seeing that, I remembered the posts here and figured I should pass along the information in case anyone is still looking for a hat. The hat is going to $48.95 alone. It's not completely accurate but if you don't care that much to be 100% accurate it's better than nothing.

Finally got a Rollei 16 for a decent price, was pretty grungy but cleaned up nicely. A couple E15B flashes as well. First one didn't work...

Watching the show on DVD now, I wince at how much that camera gets whacked around... and how the flash's plastic hot-shoe mount doesn't just snap off!

All-in-all, despite his cheap suit, his gear is all top-shelf. A few examples, prices converted to 2013 US dollars:

Rollei 16
$1388 (yes, almost 14-hundred!)

Timex electronic watch
$240

Used Ford Mustang convertible, yellow, manual transmission (what is it, '65?)
don't know $, but it's cooler than a '74 Pinto!

Cool shoes... etc

I wonder what happened to the screen-used Rollei?

This is a great thread, with lots of talent. I'm in the process of putting my outfit together, got the suit, hat, recorder... I'm interesting in knowing what to get for the Press Pass!? Any suggestions?

I'm very late to this thread but wanted to first thank everyone for the information that is provided here. I'm building out my equipment all thanks to you all. I have most of the basics in transit but need to do some work to pull it all together.

I'm tempted to do some Rakshasa hunting with this bad boy but it's a little steep. Amazon.com : 33 in. Medieval Style Crossbow with Wood Shoulder Stock : Sports & Outdoors

Thanks again for all the great info, I had no idea there were so many fans as I've never seen someone do this as a costume.

I'm not 100% certain but based on the few images front he TV series, the only model that fits is a 1950's Royal Magic Margin. I couldn't find any other brand or model that had the same button that shows up in the upper left side above the number keys with the same carriage return handle etc... If anyone knows for sure, please post here.
