What I've found works very well for simulating rubbed off paint/finish is to paint a base layer of silver then the base color. After the base color has dried, carefully go over the areas that you want to look worn with some 0000 steel wool and gradually sand away the base layer so that the silver base coat starts to show. This is a really good way for areas to look like that the finish has worn off from lots of handling and/or holster wear.I'm not completely happy with how "real" the "chips and scratches" look...
Beautiful work! One of, if not my all time-favorite Star Trek weapon, and you did a fantastic job on it. Kudos!
Very nice. The weathering almost looks like what you would see from holster wear.
