Is this a puppet or just an over sized stuffed toy?
Anyone got any pick of it?

I'm confused - how can this be Kermit's 50th anniversary?

Surely it's 30 years since the first Muppet show.

Do frog years count as 1.66 human years?

Kermit was seen on WRC-4 in Washington D.C. on a local show called "Sam and Friends"

Jim Henson was still in College at the University of Maryland and was quite the business man even then.

He used to drive a Rolls-Royce while still in school.

When Kermit and Jim, they are one in the same ya know, started doing Sesame Street in New York a lot of us locals were Proud he made it in the big time..

Who would have guessed his Muppets and himself would end up being world-wide Icons..

Kermit came into existance in 1955 using Jim Henson's mother's green coat to make him.

    So it's not a puppet?

But the ad says it is. "Puppet replica". (If this were an AA thread there would be screams of false advertising)

    So not a puppet.

*. Wanted a puppet. Oh well.

Edit: Oops....add does say "Photo"....my bad.

    Dang..still wanted a stick puppet.

Yep, it is the "Photo poser puppet" so yes it is indeed a puppet.

I'm getting this one and I'm making a stick puppet to sit along next to it.

I already got some head patterns from a 1976 Fisher price doll to resize and modify to make my stick puppet.

It may not be easy being green, but that's not much green to lose over such a fine looking product. I want to get a display case for mine when I get it. These look just like the real deal. Can't wait.

I was going to wait until they released Statler and Waldorf (old dudes on the balcony) but knowing they're not going to be actually able to be used as puppets kinda kills that idea for a birthday gift for my mother... what's the going rate on an accurate set of Statler/Waldorf replicas?

Although worth the money, IMHO, I don't have the money, so I guess it's time for me to bone up on my sewing skills... :$

Honestly people, I can understand the sheer value of such a piece, but what's the point of a Muppet you can't puppet? It's like buying a car without an engine, just to show it off in your garage :confused

I don't know, while I love the Muppets, I can't see myself buying something that's supposed to be so lively and animated that really just stands there doing nothing :(

Without the sticks, it's just a 200.00 stuffed animal. (That's right, I said it)

I may have to convert one. Think of how much better it would look with the puppeteer sticks.

Okay, so call me dense, but I'm still not sure I have the answer I'm looking for. IS there (not to sound crass, but...) a hole in his butt so that we can make him "talk"? I ask this because I do a pretty good Kermie impression.

That is called Antron fleece and is what the Muppets are made out of and it has that texture to it.

The older 70's-80's Kermits were not made in Antron and was a made with a little more pilly fleece, the newer ones apperantly are made from Antron fleece and is what this what all the Muppet are made from.

Antron fleece only comes in white and must be dyed to the correct colors and costs like $15 a yard.

Antron Fleece is also now discontinued and is VERY hard to get now.
According to a MR rep that is working on this project on the Muppet forum MR bought a very LARGE quantity of Antron fleece either before or after it was discontinued to do this run.

He looks better with his mouth open.

The guys on the Muppet forum liked the newer proto over the the Toy Fair Prototype posed on the log saying the new prototype better and much more accurate. The Toyfair proto was too over stuffed.

I remembered before when they posted the Toyfair Kermit pics, the one posed on the log and chair, you said you didn't like that one, and this new proto you like even less, just curious as to why?

Did I? I probably wasn't terribly crazy about the pics I saw at the time but I did not see that log and chair pic before this morning. I agree it's a little overstuffed in the belly. I like the log and chair head better than the new proto, though. The new head looks too small for the body and eyes.

Part of it is the Antron fleece. I'm just used to old school Kermie with the pilly version. If this fabric reflects the way he looks today, then no foul. (Although Muppet Show era is what I'd prefer.)

Yep, "Yeah, something doesn't look right about that kermit at the action figure link above. I'll wait to see production samples."
It took me a while to find it, :lol http://www.rpf.invisionzone.com/index.php?...ic=100545&st=20
I too prefer the older pilly Muppet show look.
It has been stated on the Muppet forum that the Toyfair Kermit was over stuffed in the head as poser puppets are sometimes, the newer puppet I posted according to those guys is almost dead on now.
I'm assuming this is the hand puppet because of the look on his face and not the poser puppet, but his belly is stuffed pretty good. [image]http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/50/49711/Ei01.jpg[/image]

I'm pretty sure TMS era Kermits also used Antron Fleece. If you look at the professional photo of the prototype, they don't look to h ave the "sparkly" reflections off the nylon plush - it looks more like how Kermit looked during TMS. The Kermit in the photos that have been posted is made of the EXACT same material as the one in the photos with his mouth open. Bad lighting makes EVERYTHING look completely different then the way you see it in person or on TV.

From all the research I have done on the Muppet forum trying to get info on materials to make my Kermit puppet and asking around it appears that Kermit wasn't made in the Antron fleece until the rescent years and newer Muppet movies.

That is why I decided to make mine in Alpine fleece instead of Antron fleece. I got a close color, but I still have to dye it a bit and to try and darken it.

Antron fleece accepts dye very well, regular fleece according to the forum does not. I'm hoping to just be able to tint it a bit if the dye won't fully take, kind of like dying a Mohair girth.
