Katniss Everdeen Mocking Jay Costume

Didn't get much done tonight I had to go to my moms house and mow her yard. She's getting older but the good news is so is my son! I had him help for the first time and he mowed half of her back yard lol

The black fletching came in today!! A day early, that's a happy thought and on top of that no logos on the fletching!! Solid black! Just what I needed! I attached all the fletching to all 12 arrows.. Or sticks cause there's no pointy end I LOVE them and think they look exactly like her plain arrows. I honestly didn't want to buy red and yellow knocks to make them match the other arrows but in movie posters the quiver is filled with solid black arrows no incendiary or explosive arrows.

I got the slide mount painted black for the quiver. Turned out awesome as well!

And attached the feathers that were drying last night.

I wish I had more energy so I could start to mold the feathers for the top layer. It's finally coming together and I like the way there turning out. Don't y'all just hate when you have to wait to finish something on your build till next day!! Grrrrr

Took 3 drafts to get a size for the quiver that I liked! In the end it was a spaghetti box, covered in foam cut a little short and diagonal. It 2 or 3 mm foam covered in black plasti dip and matte acrylic. Then I cut a similar design as her quiver from same neck fabric. Because it's nylon I took a lighter to the edges to keep it from fraying and then glued it on to the quiver. I used 5mm thick foam for the top edge also covered in plasti dip.

I then attached the two hook pieces. One to the quiver one to the back price of the armor. I used tow pieces of foam and my leather hole punches (also I used different shape leather punches for the strap holes on all the armor.) I stacked them and made the design I wanted the arrows to stay in. One peoce of foam was glued to the bottom of the sticks. The other was pulled up the sticks to the top to make it look like part of the quiver.

I'm thinking of taking a little break and coming back to try and finish the wings!!

She was talking about the one at Target..... I've seen it. Lol like every store bought costume looks very cheap and barely looks like the character. No wings! And the body armor looks like a leather corset lol. She'll still be one of a kind!! [emoji6]

I think the wings are officially finished! I added 6 more feathers from the past picture am working on finishing the knee guards now. [emoji851] I'm almost done!!! I'm working on plasti dipping the edge of the knee guards. I've already covered them with fabric. I'll get them assembled tonight. But will have to wait on the elastic till I see how long I need it.

I've decided to make the gray tactical vest/backpack Gale and the other soldiers wear for my son costume and if I get time mine as well.

I started working on the other bullet proof vest for my son and I.
The football jersey cam in early so I cut sections off and watered down gray acrylic paint and painted parts gray.

After it dryer I glued it to the top section with holes that I had attached the contact paper to earlier. I think glued it down to square pieces of black 5mm craft foam. Then wrapped the edges around and glued those down. I've punched the two top holes in this but still need to punch the side holes in it and attach the elastic. pretty happy how it turned out!!

This one is smaller in proportion to my sons tiny body lol.

This is what I'm going for.
I can't wait to start the vest packs!!

You guys will appreciate this lol. So my daughter has short hair (as you saw from the other pics) and she got highlights in it over the summer. We got a clip in hair extension to put in and braid with her real hair jus to make it longer and be able to do the braid like hers. Well she hair the other pictures I took because she doesn't want her highlights any more. And it didn't match the hair piece. So I told her we dye her hair to back to her natural color.... yes I just dyed my 9 year olds hair brown... I only let her get highlights because we were on Vacation this summer and my friend from high school who does it for a living did it for free.


Any way looks great! Decided to take the kids somewhere and try to get some decent pics with my own camera. Took me forever to come up with a place that looks like the capitol but I took them to a local university that's nickname is the concrete campus. It's got so much that I wanted to take there pictures around and look like they are in the capital. Well we didn't get up early enough (we did night color run and didn't get home till late) but they tried to be good sports and I got like three usable shots till they were just melting and I couldn't toucher them anymore lol. I designed a Panem poster in photoshop and had it printed at Walgreens. I used my Silhouette cameo to cut the Mockingjay symbols out of thin cardboard and spray painted it black as props for the pics. I know that I couldn't photo shop them in later. I'm hoping that it cools off and I can try to take the kids back out there later to try for some more photos!!! But it's Sunday so the campus is very empty and I wanted to get some pictures before Comic Con!!!

These are all unedited and I'm not the best photographer lol my craftiness just helps me get by with some decent photos!!
