Interest Kal-el baby blanket from Superman The Movie

I've always wanted one of these, and thought about it, discussed it with my mom (who would be sewing it), and she's up for giving it a shot.

It will NOT be made from the same materials as the original as those are 40 years old and I sincerely doubt 3m makes em anymore.

Instead, I am looking at various satin materials and some other options. I do plan on having the reflective areas around the border though.

No ideas on price whatsoever.

I'm paying my mom to make mine (she loves to quilt but stuff that takes her away from that? You'd better cough up the cash :lol ), but if she decides that she can make more of them, I was just curious if anyone else wanted one.

It'll be the same as the movie colors. Blue, gold and red, with a white backing of some sort of fuzzy material.

If you are interested, let me know. I'm going to go later this week and look at materials so I can start gauging prices on what would work best.

Thanks!
Chris

I'd be interested, pending materials and price. Do we know what the original materials were, and that they're no longer available? I used to have some pics of the blanket saved somewhere...

The original material was a rubbery vinyl sort of material that 3M made. As far as I can tell it's not offered anymore (it has been 40 years, and technology moves on).

Plus I'm about 99% sure my mom will not want to sew it if it's a wonky material :lol

Also, guys, keep in mind a: this is a display piece, not a real baby blanket, and b: my mom is 68 so if we get a ton of interest we are gonna have to split the orders up into batches.

I'm basically going to be the postage guy, but there WILL be a prototype before we have the prices done and figured out. Pics and everything will be shared before I start taking orders or payments.

Thanks!

The original material for the glowing white border of the blanket was the same as the Kryptonian outfits: silver reflective glass bead fabric. 3M still sells this under the "Scotchlite" brand name. Though silver/grayish in real life, it glows white under strong lighting. Here's a link: https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company...1405+8718942+8720539+8720552+3294857497&rt=r3

Here's a nice shot showing the blanket unlit. You can see the silver/gray 3M Scotchlite border that matches Susannah York's outfit, the white (probably fleece) lining, and the shiny outer blue/red/yellow material.

Yea, they still do the shiny stuff, but that blue/gold/red rubbery stuff isn't made any more, hence the (probable) satin option.

I'll know more on Monday when I actually get the chance to hit the local Joanns with my mom and stop her from trying to spend my entire inheritance on quilting stuff :lol

Thanks guys
Chris

Didn't get a chance to go shopping just yet. Probably later today though :)

Hoping for some good news later today!
