I'm the person who told marsattack about this situation with my V1 board. The lids on mine are still relatively straight (after I fixed the hinges). Both lids have shrunken somewhat, however, so there is a gap in between the two halves. This gap is largest in the middle where it is almost a quarter of an inch. It happened last winter when I had the heat running in our house... the heat makes the air very dry, and seems to have dried out the wood.

Mmm, it is a humidity problem then, it seems. The boards were made in a humid environment, and bringing them into an environment where the humidity is on a normal level, doesn't seem to do them good. Too bad... I hope my other board stays OK. Maybe it would have been a good idea to use another kind of wood for V2 (a kind of wood that's less sensitive to humidity).

Hi guys,

here are some pics of the new boards, my partner took them last night so they're not the best quality, I'll try to take better ones this weekend

Accurate hunter, monkey, rhino & elephant, correct number of "triangles" on top & bottom

CNC portion is recessed into the top board

CNC side botton instead of metal button

Accurate leaves on the lids

Well the screen used foam board seems to have this problem too, so you can just pretend, it got older since 1995, well technically, that makes sense Especially if it traveled to France by sea

a friend of mine did some modification work to a v.1 board & he has given me permission to post it, he's a true artist & now my v.1 board looks almost like hero board

Hey Mark.... that modified V1 board looks very smart indeed.

PS: About some of the timber warping. I think a bit of movement or warping of the timber is tolerable though and can add to the overall "used" or "old" look which is sometimes cool.
Maybe ...if the timber is sensitive to humidity changes.... it would pay to somehow put a sealer spray coat first or at the finish stage (all over) to reduce moisture gain/loss. Not sure...just thinking.

Anyway my board 9 months later is not too bad and it still looks new.... but having seen your modified board Mark... I might distress it more plus add some weathering to the paintwork. I really like that old worn out look. Thanks for posting us pics Mark.

That boards look very nice.
IMO the reason why your workers one doesn't look quite right is because he is using solid paints.
I believe to get that screen used look , it needs to be colour washes and stains which are not solid colours.
His colours may be within the range of swatches but he paint he is using is wrong.
Great job to the other guy though!

Great looking board.... V impressed with the new paint job. The wood should have a low moisture content before even being cut. Between 10% - 14% . Adding a sealer to wood that already has a high moisture content is just going to trap the moisture inside the wood....

kiln dried would be great. but that means nothing if the wood is not stored correctly.

Yes, we've started to ship the v2 boards but the new v2 owners are not board members

I'm not in the run, but following this thread with great interest: any news about the V2 boards? Were these shipped yet and dit someone received theirs?

Hi Tom,

I only have 3 members interested but we're currently fulfilling those orders from collectors outside this forum, they have paid in full & rightfully should receive their boards first

Not sure if relevant, but I just did some weathering on my V1 board, I had been putting it off, but with Robin's passing I felt it was time. My main focus was the White lettering, It really pops with even the slightest of shading.

Thanks mark, It's defiantly a work of art proudly on display in my living room. Sorry to hear that the CNC guy had to raise the price on the boards, but it's still well worth it. My board has held up great, and it went through a Florida summer with no AC, very hot and very wet and the board is exactly as it came out of the box when you shipped it to me.
I did turn the camera on over my shoulder while I did the weathering, I recorded for the full 3 hours it took, I can upload the full three hours to youtube, but I will get it cut down and up for anyone interested.
