I missed out on the Disney Rewards medallion. I didn't have enough points at the time. Now I do and they're long gone. My brother got one and likes to gloat about it. It IS really nice.

The Tars Tarkas bust is very cool.

I liked the movie too. I can't get over how many people wanna snub this movie.

This was a great movie, it was purposefully taken down due to an inside fight at Disney between past franchise managers and new management teams. Its a shame as it should have been the start of a very strong franchise.

Interestingly enough, a similar fight is now happening with the Pacific Rim franchise. I think it is going to be strong enough to overcome the internal sabotage happening right now, which may be a lesson to a few insiders at Disney.

Honestly even if it had been given more support and better marketing in the end it's only a fun but somewhat forgettable popcorn movie.

I think it was doomed from the start because they failed in the initial stages of adapting the story, they stripped it of much of what made the original stories fun in the first place. They failed again by budgeting an amazing amount of money on a spectacle that wasn't that spectacular.

While I would agree with this statement on principle (I'm a guy... nudity is good), I have to say that what they essentially did was Disney-fy everything and work three books worth of info into one movie while simultaneously watering down the point of the story. The story wasn't about the fight against Zodanga (that was a minor plotpoint, at best). It was, at its heart, an adventure story about how John Carter's actions changed the face of a dying world.

I thought so...especially Woola. The scene with JC and Woola battling the Warhoon horde was straight from the novels....in spirit.

Oh man, that particular scene was a Crowning Moment of Awesome...

... even if it wasn't from the Princess of Mars novel.


To me, the most awesome part of that scene was not John Carter going hog-wild, or even the emotional aspect of the scene (interspersed with shots of him burying his wife... even though he was never married in the novels before meeting Dejah Thoris). The coolest thing in this scene was Woola, who stood by his friend's side. Aesthetically speaking, the best part was seeing Woola running at top speed, circling around, and launching himself, jaws open, right at the enemy, and he flew just past the camera. Superb cinematography, IMHO. Of course, the excellent music by Michael Giacchino helped a lot (I consider this soundtrack to be amongst his finest works, even if it was attached to a mediocre movie... and really, the only thing that keeps Giacchino from becoming a standout composer is his apparent insistence on titles with craptastic puns).

I liked it. That might seem like an understated review of a whole film, but I liked it. In an age when so many movies are geared towards popcorn eaters and explosions, I find that when I can genuinely say 'I liked it' without apologies or follow ups, it says something about the film.

I loved this movie. My only issue is that it missed alot of the romantism, and charm that made the novels such a great space opera. They did this by removing some of the elements that defined the classic literature. The damsel in distress, the knight in shining armor kind of stuff. It ruined it a little for both my wife and I.

Had they left all that in there, though, the movie would have been denounced as extraordinarily sexist.
