John Boyega mentions Episode VII saber prop in interview

I just stumbled upon an Entertainment Weekly article in which John Boyega (who plays Finn in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII) reveals a few interesting details about the newest Anakin/Luke Lightsaber prop to hit the big screen.

After briefly mentioning rehearsals where he was simply given "a stick" to practice his duel with Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), he continues; “That’s when I got the real saber, which is blue, it’s lighted, and just looks really epic — It felt monumental in my hand. I knew not to play like I used to when I was a kid, but to actually use it in serious combat for a scene. It’s absolutely crazy to have in your hand. It’s a bit heavy, but it’s worth it.“

I assume this means the new prop legitimately lights up, which would be a first for any Star Wars movie (unless you count the glowing tubes used during part of the Anakin Vs. Dooku duel in AOTC, which were not the primary props). Sounds to me like JJ wanted a real colored glow cast on his actors during the inevitable saber-shenanagins we'll be seeing in the new movie. They actually used some of the off the shelf hasbro (?) sabers with a bit of modification for some of the duels to get the correct reflections.

Source? I've seen reference to FX sabers being used for the glow, but I've never seen someone actually reference Force FX being used.

FX just means it has light and sound capabilities, meaning they took one of their hilts and added a light up blade. I don't believe they used anything off the shelf for filming
