JJ ABRAMS Enterprise

hahaha... this gif would have been better if it were complete... him looking at the monitor with a pic of the new Enterprise coming up, and then having him go insane... :lol

I request one of these. :)

Re: New Enterprise? What the H@*$

Okay which one of these is the actual design? We're seeing two different looks.

Again, those who think that the outcry is about any kind of change, that is NOT the problem, the problem is the quality of the changes. The new design is souped-up to the point of being distorted. In that first photo it comes across as arbitrary, random, disintegrated. I like some aspects of it but others are out of balance and out of proportion. But this has all been said well already in the other thread.

Re: New Enterprise? What the H@*$

Bryan Singer was pointedly NOT a fan of X-men yet he carried on the tradition and was true to the characters and the expected appearances of the characters. He didn't make Wolverine a Chinese woman or have Professor X played by Brad Pitt.

But he did make Wolverine too tall and Storm too short.

I will say this.

One of things that makes Star Trek what it is, is that it puts a mirror up to society and reflects the sensibilites and attitudes of the time in which it was made.

This movie looks like it will do the same. Sure looks like this will cater to the zero attention span chuckleheads that Hollywood seems to bow down to, and which the youth of today seems to live by.

That Gabe Koerner thing is constantly getting pitched as the Abrams Enterprise.... :lol

zing!

Right, so you'll judge that based on how the designs look and how the trailer (which, regardless of the films content is always geared toward the crowd you mention) play out?
That's fine by me, everyone is entitled to their own.
However I'm willing to give it a shot. I don't know enough about it to judge it yet. If I go see it, and it sucks, then so be it. But, until then, I'll reserve judgement.
I'm a pecimist most of the time, believe it or not. :lol

As an age-bound representative of the "youth of today", I can say that there is a fairly large contingency of youth audiences supporting smarter entertainment.

Obviously, no show/franchise/movie will ever have ONE demographic, the support of young age groups has proven itself significant.

Look at the success of Lost. Look at the immense successes of the Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean films. Now, people will argue till the sun goes down about the quality of these examples, but you'd be hard pressed to convince anyone that these pieces of entertainment are extremely ambitious, and exponentially more complex, both in structure and thematic content, than any other popular entertainment.

People complain about movies (and TV) that lack story, and when they're given pieces of pop entertainment chocked full (spilling over into other medias, in some examples) of character, plot, and deep thematic content, they run away screaming.

Either we're in a transitional phase, or people will be forever polarized. (I hope the former)

It's NOT the Enterprise. It's a made up pretend Enterprise that exists solely to sell more toys.

Personally, I wouldn't go see the movie if it were a rehash of the same 40 year old ship. I've seen that thing hundreds of times. The series was good but let's leave it where it belongs. Time for something fresh.

I can't wait to see the new Enterprise from the different angles. I'll even buy one if Diamond Select makes one to go with the others I have.

I hope the story lives up to it's potential.

You know.... I`ve never been a fan of the Original Series. The movies were of mixed grades to me. I am a big fan of the Undiscovered Country, it really made me emotional to see the Enterprise going away, and the autographs of the whole gang coming in.... but I REALLY did NOT dislike it that much now! Actually, it is to me aesthetically pleasing enough for me to WANT one of the toys they´ll surely release out of it!

This is a BIG thing I´m saying now, to me, being quite averse to the Trek all these years....

Re: New Enterprise? What the H@*$

This new ship looks as though it was designed and put together by monkies!

:sick
