JJ ABRAMS Enterprise

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

I agree..I dont like it HOWEVER if you look at Jaffries unused designs its doubtful he would poo poo it as it looks like some of his earlier designs.
I thinks its horrid however.
Absolutely no regard for design continuity.

A crime.

Matt Jefferies is probably spinning in his grave.

But if I were to take it completely on it's own, it's pretty cool.

Certainly will be able to sell a bunch more toys. Which is of course the real motivation for not using a proper Enterprise.

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

Actually, this is going to be one of the more flattering poses for the Enterprise, in any configuration. There are a few conventional ways to shoot it, which are used over and over. So I'd take this as one of the better-case scenarios for seeing the design.

Canon is fine;departure from canon is fine. That's not the issue. The issue is that its proportions are imbalanced. Some people like that. Some people eat potted meat.

QTF
The original E looked balanced and graceful. This monstrosity looks like it doesnt know what it wants to be and I reALLY think that the steroid nacelles on teh upside down taperd pylons makes teh ship looks structurally 'weak'. To me it looks like somebody bought their kid a model of the TMP Enterprise but forgot to give them instructions with it.

But the pic looks distorted (fish-eye), or am I wrong?

Sad if this is as good as it'll look.

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

I'm more of a TNG fan, and not so much the original. But I think this looks great. The movie is shaping up to be pretty cool too. I'll see it.

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

Those are the same shuttles as seen in the spy photos from earlier this year

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

I can't find any pictures of it, but the nacellas remind me of the design of the tower thingies that were part of the underwater city that surfaced at the end of James Cameron's "The Abyss".

You know what I mean?

I don't mind the looks of it, but that's what I think of with that ridge and the blue lights under it's edge.

It's a different design is all. Who cares about subtle changes in the ship. It still resembles the original design.

Hopefully the script and storyline is golden. That's all I care about. If they carry on Roddenberry's vision, that's all that matters. It's 2008... I don't want to see the same ship from 1966.

I'm thinking Gabe's enterprise is a trillion times better looking that what is posted in the first post of this thread !

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

I don't mind it. Even Roddenberry trashed what had come before so who cares about canon, just pretend this takes place in an alternate universe. As for the proportions anyone remember this ship?

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

Could have been worse (hell, it has been worse), but it should have been a helluva lot better.

Lopsided is right. Believe it or not, this angle is somewhat flattering.

AAAAACK!!! So... that's really it then? Not another one of Koerner's designs? :confused

Huh... It'll take some getting used to... :unsure

Read it...that's not Star Trek...

Not really, no. And that particular device is not only overused and implausible, but lazy. Roddenberry's genius was contrasting the simple humanity against the fantastic backdrop; not this adolescent wank-fantasy "what if" stuff. This Enterprise design, however, absolutely matches the vibe of the look of the production design and footage, and the sort of silliness spoiled in the article. Sort of an iPod Enterprise in an Overstock.com universe.
