JFcustom's FOAM files

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.

I add a new Iron Man mkVII helmet, modeled by omarbou1 . Thanks to you for this accurate and really good looking version.
I had to simplify it to make it foam friendly, but the original model was full-option, with both splittable jaw and faceplate. It would be worth a try into a standard pep build, if someone would want to unfold it for paper. Please ask him for the source obj file : View Profile: omarbou1 - the RPF

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►omarbou1 IM-mk7 helmet◄ added

I know your probably doing a lot of work as it is and I apologize if it's rude of me to ask. But will there possibly be the MK 39 Gemini suit in the future ?

I've built a few foam suits currently free handing Turian ghost from Mass effect Multiplayer. Foam is fun to use and I have a better out come than pep.:)

Hi,
If I want to use cardboard, i will use pep file for foam or pep files for paper ? Just a little doubt who doesn't let me sleep :(

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►omarbou1 IM-mk7 helmet◄ added

Hey guys.

I just wanted to show you this few pictures. First of all i have never done a foam armor like this. So I decided to try it. I chose the Vanquish foam armor. Why ? Well because i really liked the design and it works for what i want. What I plan to do is make a custom armor out of it (giving credit to the makers of course) but once finished it will be for a Green Lantern Construct Armor

Anyways , I was talking to JF about some tips and everything and I told him my problem. That it has been difficult for me to find 6mm eva foam ( I live in Puerto Rico ) And although i found at Sears & Pep Boys now the problem was the Money. So i decided to TRY and make it out of the foam I already had which is a eva foam mat of 12mm

I will admit that it is hard as $#!%, But it aint impossible.I think that because of the thickness i used a lot of blades :/ and also the cuts didnt came straight at all. Here are some pics of the only piece i have put together.

Here is the piece all glued and together.

In here you can see one of the downs of cutting such thick foam for a scalpel blade (which i only had available at the moment) But i think that with a dremmel it can be fixed.

The Inside of it.

And here is an example of good and bad cutting. Yes, Im such a noob at this.

I would think for foam as the cardboard has thickness, having said that you could lose the tabs if you are using the filess for paper

I used JF's foam files for a corrugated cardboard MKIV and they worked perfectly, you just need to look at the 3d and 2d windows of each piece and just plan and think about how you are going to cut and glue everything together..

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►omarbou1 IM-mk7 helmet◄ added

Great work JFcustom. One question I have is that it looks the "how to valley and mountain explanation" got the titles switched. Am I right?

Thanks again and keep up the good work!!!!

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►omarbou1 IM-mk7 helmet◄ added

Well I don't think so.
All your cuts and gluing are to be done on the inner side.
A single cut on the inner side makes a valley on the outer side,
and removing a tobleron to the inner side allows a mountain on the outer side...

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►omarbou1 IM-mk7 helmet◄ added

I have a question. I just started my mark iv build after seeing your impressive 5 day build. I am only about done with the biceps and forearms so I still have a ways to go. My question is...I notice in your pictures you wear a red shirt underneath to cover the space between the bicep and your forearm. Has anyone figured out a way to cover that area with foam? The same holds true between your cod piece and thighs.

Got it JFcustom. Thanks for your reply. It was me doing the things in the wrong way.

Great tips and files!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►omarbou1 IM-mk7 helmet◄ added

I started building the sharkhead7854 head... its come together as well as I had hoped for a novice & first time builder. I used the drink bottle caps for adding the jaw onto the ears, but I can squeeze my head in without all sealed up... so might not use that now... any tips/ hints most welcome! IMMark4.jpg
