Jes Gistang inspired female stormtrooper armour

Re: Jes Gistang inspired stormtrooper armour

I think that if you are going for the TK style, then I would agree to go for this TK look all the way, vs a mashup of the GG statue/TK. The form and more streamlined "feminized" look is key, and I think you're going the right path to combine this look with the existing TK style.

I'd love to see the next steps of the suit with a fitted suit and the new helmet.

Of all the models, I think the light red/blond hair with the nose ring worked the best. However, I do like the shot you got of the model above her with the more brownish red hair. Camea angle low and to the left, she is holding the gun and the helmet on her right hip. This is a great shot.

Yeah it seems that I'm pushing the suit more and more to the feminized tk style, more like the Hasbro action figure. So reworking the ab plate makes sense to me!

I'm starting a new contract next week so progress is going to slow on this for the next couple of months but I'll chip away at the changes and post more pics soon

Really cool to see this happening. I'm actually looking at this for my wife and daughter so we can troop together! What geek, I know!

Thanks Panaflex! It's been a really enjoyable build. I reckon you should go supermarket shopping together too :)

wow september already. I am finally getting back into this project. I've pretty much finished the alterations I want to make to the forms and am now working on the helmet. I 've had a reread through this thread to see where I got to.

Big thanks to dday and Mara Jade's father for feedback and suggestions. I think you guys' suggestions are right on the money so I'll be following them fairly closely.

So few crappy WIPS. I cut out the second cheek, cut the top off the faceplate and cut the lower jaw off aswell. I then cut 10mm off the lower jaw to make it smaller. I had planned to widen the lower jaw to compensate for the lost width after cutting but I think I'll leave it as is. I makes the face more 'pointy' and elongated and I think that'll work.

Next up I'm going to:

thin the bottom of the lower jaw, remove a lot of the bulk.
cut the teeth in a lot more, a lot taller than they are but a bit thinner than the normal tk.
finish up the cheek scoops
thin down the side tubes a bit
get a tiny bit of curve into the lower eye bits (ie lower in the centre)
rebuild the crappy mic thing in the middle, slightly different design but still maintain the smaller thinner feel
build up the top of the eyes. Needs to be about 21mm from the top of the nose to the bottom of the brow

Main thing at this stage is to make sure I maintain the tk bucket 'feel'. I think it's going to be really easy to lose what makes a bucket look like a bucket

Ok you lot C and C most welcome :)
cheers

This thread just keeps giving me more and more appreciation of the work that goes into builds, I look forward to the next update.

I saw a few Female Troopers going around at SD Comic Con (have the photos somewhere), definetly looks to be an armour that's getting more and more popular.

Hey Artshot yeah it's amazing the amount of thought you have to put into this sort of stuff. Even changing dimensions by 5 or 10mm makes a huge difference. I guess it was kind of inevitable after the Jes Statue was released that this armour would eventually surface. I think I started my armour slightly before KWdesigns but he crossed the finished line WAY before I will :)

Thanks for the comments I hope to have another update soon

Wow. I wish I were pretty enough to wear that armor.

Hey Jennigirl I've tried to make the armour as form fitting as possible in the same way that the male armour fits a male form better than the female form. I found that even with the models I had there was a lot of difference there was between each of them. Luckily I was just duct taping everyone into the suit and it seemed to fit ok! Overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It will be interesting to see how it looks with redesigned helmet :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Really amazing work :) loving the suit

Hey Spacebob thanks mate yes please if you have a side on view that would be helpful I would like to be able to compare the cheek scoops on both helmets.

Also I really like the way the cheek scoops on your helmet blend with the lower jaw. Mine is doing something similar which is encouraging :)

I found some photos,
click on them to make them bigger

side on pics as requested..the cheek scoops on mine are not as deep as on an ep III clone but they could be

also some pre viz pics I did first to see how the eyes were going to work out

see the problem is, its hard to have the rim around the eye, and and have the cheek scoop things.

thats why the lenses/eyes are so small on this one to alow them to still have cheek scoops,
I opted to just not to have the eye rims and keep full sized lenses:)
This is your challenge.

Hey Space bob thanks very much for the extra pics that's awesome! the more I look at the faceplate of your helmet the more I think that's where mine is heading (minus the fin :) ). The deeper cheek scoops give you that really nice blend up into the lower jaw which I am also doing. I think I can blend this scoop with the eye ok. It will mean a fairly deep pull into the cheek so hopefully I will be able to pull the plastic off the former :)

And yeah the more l look at your bucket the more I am convinced that it's vital to retain the original dimensions of the eye area

ok thanks again mate I will try and get another WIP up today or tomorrow

Especially on a helmet that is representing a female. Like I said in my original post IMHO, you should actually go larger than normal or at least outline them with dark trim/detailing.

I'll do the eyes at roughly the same size for now and see how the final form looks. With a lot of the dimensions around the eyes shrinking it will kind of make the eyes look bigger so doing nothing might get the right result :D
