JB Replicas Dredd/Judge Helmet build Finished, pics on page 2

Re: JB Replicas Dredd/Judge Helmet build (Questions too)

Forgot to update this thread, but I wanted to post where the helmet is at right now. Posted this the other day in the facebook group, but here it is. Just need to add the visor and padding! Went with a grimy-er weathering and less scratched. Hard to really tell in pics but it appears dirtier in person. Didn't want to go overboard with the weathering though. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics but I'll be using a nicer camera for when I finish the helmet entirely

Yep, I used the recommended paint list from the Facebook group: Rustolium Colonial Red, and Rustolium Painter's Touch Ultra Cover 2X Gloss Black.

The silver was Rustolium "titanium" silver. The colonial Red is a close match to the paint on the real helmets, but it's a shade or two brighter. I black washed it as best I could but it also blends in with the overall weathering. I used mostly straight black acrylic on the red area. I then mixed brown acrylic with the black and dirtied up the rest of the helmet.

Re: JB Replicas Dredd/Judge Helmet build (Questions too)

Thanks!!!

Any plans on where you can get the visor?
Welding face shield is already phased out in our area.... I'm planning to use acrylic sign boards and heat bend them to form...

Re: JB Replicas Dredd/Judge Helmet build (Questions too)

Well I was gonna use the face shield welding visor since it's a good and cheap alternative to chopping up a $40 motorcycle visor. Plus, I can manipulate it to fit better onto the helmet. It has a sharp curve

Re: JB Replicas Dredd/Judge Helmet build (Questions too)

Forgot about this thread for a bit but I had finished this the other day. Overall happy with how it turned out. Already shipped off to it's new owner

Can you explain your paint process? Did mine with primer, silver then gloss black... but when I applied red,,, seems like its not covering the black and made a mess.. had to strip and redo the whole process again...

Any suggestions???

Which paint brands did you use? I followed the colors listed on the facebook group page. I just applied gray primer, sanded, then 3 coats of rust-olium titanium silver, masked off the scratches with toothpaste, then applied a coat of the gloss black, then masked off the black and sprayed the red.

Are you waiting long enough for the pain to dry?

Locally available is BOSNY Spray paints...

Waited 3 days after 2 coats of black and 1 pass of clear coat.

How long did you wait for each layer of coats then to a new color (red over black) to make sure that they are cured?
