This is my first costume/prop build. I would first like to thank all those who post how to's and reference pictures on this site. It helped me out greatly with the construction of this costume. Everything except his jumpsuit was scratch built by me. It took around 150 hours total to get the costume to this point. The jetpack is made out of EVA foam, beer cans, dixie cups, easter eggs, MDF, and styrene. The armor is made from heat formed styrene. The gauntlets are made from cardboard and bondo. Blasters are PVC, MDF, and apoxie sculpt. The helmet was built with paper and then fiberglass and bondo. I tried to make it as close to the movies as I could. The Jetpack was the first part of the build and I had to freestyle it due to lack of materials when I started it. I went for a very dirty and weathered look to the costume making it look like he just got back from a rough manhunt. My boy is almost 6 and Star Wars is his favorite movie. He loves Jango Fett (couldn't talk him into Boba) and cant wait for Halloween to show off his costume. I learned a bunch from this build and am looking forward to next year. I think we are going to do Halo armor for him and his little brother. Price for this build was around $250.00 (i have a bunch of left over materials so the next one should be allot cheeper) Photography by myself in my makeshift studio.

Enjoy

Your 'makeshift' puts a lot of professionals to shame! Very nicely done- your weathering is extremely well done.

Here are a couple of build photos. I did a poor job documenting the build due to how busy I was with my real jobs. I finally dug out a couple of them from my phone to post. The Helmet started out as a Pep file that I had to scale to his size. The first one was way to small so I made it 3 times. Thank fully the construction got better with every attempt. I then used resin inside and out to strengthen it. I placed 2 layers of fiberglass on the inside of the helmet to make it rock hard. After that I used lots of bondo and sanding (wow was there a lot of sanding). Paint was from a rattle can and the weathering was done with acrylic paints and rub and buff.
The Jetpack was made out of EVA foam. The main gas tank was a tall beer can that I had on hand. above that that tapered portion was a paper cup from mcdonalds. For the Missile at the top I used dixie cups and easter eggs. The thrusters are dixie cups that I strengthened with resin. I coated the entire thing in mod podge and then layers of bondo to fill all the gaps. Lots of sanding followed by rattle can paint. Again the weathering was done with acrylics and rub and buff.
Velcro holds all the armor to the vest.

Your son is going to be the envy of his friends with his costume. You get major dad points for doing such an awsome job!

That is wonderful! FANTASTIC job. I'm sure your son is VERY excited. You're a good dad.

Your pics would make for some wonderful posters! I'm sure someone could make that happen? ;)

I gotta say this is an awesome build and the paint job is great. This is impressive. Love the final pictures, he pulls of a good Jango

Great costume, I hope that my unborn son (scrap the unborn within 3 weeks) will be into starwars like that, gives me an exuse to try to match your build.

Only comment I have is that the helmet is just a bit to big, but little boys grow.
