James Bond: Skyfall (Post-release) (Spoilers - Don't hover over the title)

After months of avoiding all contact, saw it today and have to say it left me a little flat. I mean, a whole movie dedicated to basiclly seeing out Judy Dench from the series?. Will try and see it again soon but Im thinking its a wasted opportunity. More Quantum please.

I wouldn't say that at all. It's the final set up to get us back to classic Bond. We have a new M, a new Q, a new Moneypenny, and we're back in the Universal Exports office outside of the MI6 building.

They had huge obstacles in how to get it all back to that again without being too forced. Afterall, Bond and M have been at the MI6 building for years and to me it never felt right. Also, they had to find a way to transition M and bring in the new characters believably and I think they did that very well.

Silva was mesmerizing as the villain. That first long walk up the room telling his story about the rats you were focused on him the entire time, one single take. Beautifully done.

This one was more on the level of "License to Kill". There's no real dire threat to the world but it's personal. Very much like most of the novels.

I really enjoyed the previous two movies as they stayed away from all those things, a new Bond set free of the past and was thinking there would be at least two more movies before Eon went down that safe path. Not looking forward to having this Q fellow in Bonds ear during every mission. The closer you think they are moving with the books, the further away they get.

Its a really good Bond movie, just not the one I wanted to see yet. Would have much prefered Mr White over Silva.

He'll be back. I still say this is the "Goldfinger" step away from Quantum and his next films will be all about the new SPECTRE.

Why step away from Quantum? much like MI6, we know very little about them, I thought they were "SPECTRE"

They are the new SPECTRE.

For the same reason Goldfinger stands out in the Connery era. Sometimes you need just a random bad man to break things up a bit. Like SPECTRE if every film was about Quantum it would get tedious. The world has plenty more bad guys in it that aren't employed by that one organization.

True, but when you invent one purely to facilitate the transition of a new M, its not as convincing.

I thought it worked very well. They tied some of her lines from past films in there so that it was a believable development of the character after QOS. Her "regrets are unprofessional" is a line right from the end of the last film which was a direct tie in with her failing in CR. This time one came to bite her in the ass.

I understand what you mean about wanting to keep Bond out of the typical but I think they have some stuff up their sleeves yet. Admittedly though I absolutely LOVE that they're back in the UE office where they belong.
