Inspired by this thread (LINK) and others at the BB-8BuildersClub Forum and FB page, I decided to purchase and mod a Jakks Pacific BB-8 for my kids.
Wanted to start this thread to specifically document and crowdsource ideas on ways to mod and "improve" this nice toy.
Completed:
1. 3D Printed (more detail) Radar Eye - Replaced LED w/smaller LED to fit 3D printed version and cut x-mas ornament for eye dome.
2. 3D Printed Halo Projector w/3D printed lens
3. 3D Printer Antennas - still need to mount pics soming soon
4. Basic weathering
5. Use Aluminum tape for dome ring to better replicate brush ring
To do:
- Replace sounds and electronics with custom electronics for more accurate sound & lights - developed this Arduino based setup which I'd like to install (LINK to Demo)
- Add remote head rotation, tilt, & pan - Not sure exactly how I'm going to do this. Suggestion welcomed
- Possibly repaint to be more accurate or just clear coat to give a more accurate finish
- Repaint ring around HP
- Add weight bottom of body to eliminate stands
