Jackieisrockin's Iron Man Mk 42 Pepakura Files! Back added to first post!

1, Both methods are well suited for noobs; it's more a question of which materials are more readily available to you. Foam is generally easier because the foam itself has a thickness to it, which makes doing detail work easier, whereas cardstock is more readilly available and generally has a better finish to it, but you will also need to be able to obtain resin and fiberglass in order to harden the cardstock for use.

2, The helmet is usually the last peice you should do, because of scaling issues. I personally would recommend starting with the cod piece, since if you aren't comfortable in that region of your body, you're gonna have a rough time.

Since you are a noob, and I'm assuming this will be your first build, do the helmet at its default scale, using either foam or cardstock. This will allow you to get used to the entire process and see which method you prefer, while keeping your initial investment down.

Thank you, I shall probably start with the cod piece because I would like to be as comfy as possible, also it looks like that piece would not be a mammoth task to start with.

Thank you again. :)
Jamie

PS. yes this is my first ever attempt at a build, I shall be getting the resin and fiberglass as well as a decent respirator :)

sir do you plan of making the hip pod?

I plan on making all of it from top to bottom, just hoping I have the ability to do so. I looked at the designs (some in card and some in foam) and I worry how I know how to fit it all together....also on my pepakura, the MK 42 Back only shows half the parts on the card and I tried to add some of the other parts, but a couple dont fit on one sheet. :(

Many thanks for any advice
Jamie

The only way to find your scale is to measure your body parts and scale the armor parts to fit them. There is no super-duper generic scale calculator that makes a 6ft guy with long legs and short arms magically fit the same scale as a 6ft guy with short legs and long arms.

well depends on how proportionate your body is. If you're average looking guy, than scaling to your height tends to do fine. But I notice when people scale each individual part to their body it can look funny. But that's where good and bad cosplay comes in. It's sad to say not everyone can pull it off. But at the same time it doesn't matter.. as long as you're having fun :)

Most of the files usually only show one half of the piece you are making. All you do is flip each piece to make the corresponding other half, It'll also save you on card stock if you are making a foam build

Hey guys, I am having some issues with the scaling of the pieces, it's already happened to me so many times that I don't feel like working on it anymore.

(Sorry for the bad quality)

As you can see some of the pieces are a lot smaller than others and they do not fit with each other, I would like to know if this has happened to anybody else since it's getting really annoying and as a new costume builder i'm losing a lot of motivation :( any help as to how to fix this is appreciated, thanks!

HeY jackie !!! congratulations for the back of the armor, I just see and really is very nice, excellent design :), I was not entering the forum for personal issues and I am also the theme of the suitcase, but I wanted to congratulate you and say hello, congratulations again! :cheers :cheers :cheers

On my first suit I didn't scale each piece to my exact measurements. Instead I just scaled the whole suit to my height to get a rough idea of the fit.
That way all the parts retained the correct scale so as not to look weird when I wore it.
As you get more experienced you can start to alter the scale in more detail to achieve that perfect custom fit we all want

I have attached two screenshots of how it is on my pepakura to show you what i mean.

The first shot shows the missing parts up in top left and the second shows a part that I tried to place back on card, but it appears to be two parts and it wont fit on one page. am I doing something wrong?

If u are making it for foam then all the parts you need should be there. You can either split that part to make it fit on 2 separate pages (join/disjoin edges) or print it over 2 pages and then tape the pages together to make 1 big part (JFCustoms method) make sure to check the the print alignment marks though

Speaking of scaling, I'm having issues as well. Can anyone tell me what my scale factor would be if my forearm from inseam of my elbow to my wrist is 9 inches? Thank you

tommyb345 did you experience any paint cracking or wrinkling with your foam sealing technique? because I don't seem to see any.
Looks smooth and paint crack free.

I see.., but the problem that really bothers me is that the pieces inside the file, in this case the leg, don't fit like they should, it's like if you had a puzzle piece that was too small compared to the other pieces, I hope you understand what i'm trying to say. :p thanks for the help!

Go back to your pepakura viewer and make sure to click on every piece in the 3d window so you know where there are in the 2d, I usually mark all my pieces if I'm not sure where they go to make it easier
