JACK SPARROW RINGS

yes, it is... what's your point?
[/b]

you mentioned this was the noble ring, but the noble ring is silver in color

And so is that ring. It's silver reflecting off of a gold background. But it's clearly not "gold" like the Georgian style ring next to it.

It was gold when I took the picture.

I still think it's got a goldish tint, like old brass. I base that on all these pictures of the screen-used rings as well as caps from the film itself.

It's got that tint because it's tarnishing sterling silver. Sterling silver, as opposed to pure silver, uses a mixture of copper and silver to provide strngth to the metal. Therefore, sterling, due to copper's oxidizing starts to gets lightly brassing looking and will eventually turn black and dull.

Dude, it's on a gold background next to a gold ring reflecting from inside a shiny plexiglass box.

Main point is, even if not silver, it can't be gold because gold doesn't tarnish. The metal is inert. The most that happens is a sort of scummy, filmy build up, but it only dulls the metal's appearance, it doesn't darken it. Maybe the rings were brass or copper, which could give off a more yellow lustre, but they're not gold.

I may just be playing devil's advocate here, but neither I nor sparrowfan actually said it was gold - I said it was gold-tinted, and he just said that it was not silver. :p

In all seriousness, your comment about sterling silver makes sense to me. I never knew sterling had copper in it, and that is definitely a reasonable explanation for the various silver/goldish/black colors we see on the ring.

What size are these buggers? I know you can order the nobel ones to fit, but not the MR. I'd like to know even before I plop down 10 bucks. Money is still money after all. :p

Yeah, I'd like to know size as well on the MR. My guess is they will all be ONE standard size, like the current Jack Sparrow Green ring that is already out. Too bad they didn't at least release them in small, medium and large...my guess is the MR rings will be in the size 9 to size 10 area...and I need a 12 for my ring finger.

The Dragon Ring looks like dark tarnished brass in all the movie scenes I've seen it in -- the Noble Dragon ring is indeed silver -- and the ring never looked silver to me int he movie. The Dragon ring shown in the Disney display is gold -- those aren't just reflections.

Well, the gold would also stand for it being gold plated/leafed. ;)

The one Acme magic sells on the 'Bay is a coated ring over copper plating over what I'm going to assume is zinc. So they're going with copper for the color under the black crud.

And if it does look gold-gold, then it would have to be polished brass in the Disney case.

Does anyone know an approximate size for the current MR Sparrow skull ring?
[/b]
Approx 9 3/4...
I hope the other rings will be at least 10...

^
for the skull ring, i would just make a cut at the bottom of the ring, so you could expand it for a custom fit

or
cut off a piece from the bottom then push the 2 ends together to make it smaller

Darn that dragon ring is for the thumb and my thumb is at least a 13. :(

make a cut at the bottom of the ring and expand it :)
see my above post for illustration

Just thought I'd mention this, as I found it sort of amusing - you can already "buy" the new rings on eBay. Say the auctions:
This is a PRE-ORDER for the new MASTER REPLICAS PIRATES OF CARIBBEAN JACK SPARROW ______ RING REPLICA.
It will shipped within 30 days of auction close.
We are not responsible for manufacture's (sic) delay.[/b]

That manufacturer's delay bit is a clever way to play off the fact that they probably won't be released for several more months.

A post from another costume site! Gives you an idea of the different rings out there on the market. I do not own any from Noble Collections!

The mixture of Captain Jack Sparrow rings that I own.
The original rings as taken by someone at Comic-Con! The button ring does look like the MR version though. All pics of the actual ring on JD finger has a much wider/flatter band.

The jade dragon ring. Different vendors. Not very pleased with the MR version. The Skinny Dog Design ring (the ones that are sold exclusive to Disney Parks) has the most accurate design but it is a bit smaller. ACME Brand (thank you Richard) has the most accurate size as compared to the movie version.

The evolution of my jade dragon ring. Going clockwise you can see the rings that I used over the last year playing Captain Jack Sparrow. I don't think I will be wearing the MR version...still not to happy with it!

The stolen ring aka the gold amethyst ring. This is the first ring I made using polymer clay and a real amethyst stone. My ring is fairly accurate in size to the movie version. Skinny Dog Design ring is nice but a little smaller than the movie version. I still haven't received the MR version.

The button ring which I finally receive the MR version. My first ring was purchased off of ArrBay and this is the one I have been using up to as early as two weeks ago. Finally MR comes through with a fairly accurate ring as compared to the movie version. It is slightly smaller in size compared to the actual movie version and the one I saw in person.

I measured the MR button ring and it is about 3/4 inches accross which equals about a size 11.

I am still waiting for the Skinny Dog Design Captain Sao Feng ring and the MR stolen ring.
*Edited by Bosun Carmina to change too large pics AGAIN into clicky links. Please remember that pic size is limited to 600 x 800!*
