Item stolen from DragonCon

Il put a link to this on the FORUM OFTHE APES some of the guys there were at Dragon con too

Any details on the circumstances under which this was taken? Out of his room, off the top of his head? If it was on a table or in a booth, I hope he contacted the police and made a report.

I'm curious about this myself. I know I'm going to come off sounding like the douche' I am, but I have to ask, if it was so valuable to the gentelman who made it, shouldn't he have kept a (rimshot, please) closer eye on it? Now if it was in his room under lock and key and someone broke in, he took all the precautions he could, he can't be blamed. But if he left it in the open in a crowded room, well, people are unpredictable and impulsive, if someone sees the chance to get away with a nifty piece, they will. He shouldn't be surprised.
You guys remember a few years back when Master Replicas had the collectors society party at one of these cons, and someone swiped one of the only two Luke stunt ROTJ sabers? That actually turned out well as it was returned, but this person I suspect will not be as lucky.

Because if it is our expectation that people will consistently suck, then they most likely will satisfy that expectation. However, to support the expectation that people won't suck is the best way for humanity to progress.

The only penalty being that when people suck and ruin your expectations, it feels worse than if you consistently set low expectations. Perception of events revolves around expectations.

I am curious too on how he lost it?

Knowing me, I would be looking at my costume non-stop making I wasnt missing anything especially a small item like that.

My guess, is that he was using the restroom. Put it down for a few seconds and poof!!!!!

I'll post this at the finheadcentral

I'm sorry to be reading this. As someone who makes things myself and went through sort of a similar thing I can appreciate your situation. Some people are vermin. Post this notice on various steampunk sites if you can.

I don't understand why somone would steal this? I mean he can't sell it anywhere, because most people in the steampunk relm will know who's it is. Sorry to hear that!

Brad

If it were on display then Con security needs to rethink how they display stuff.

If it were just "lying around" and was lifted than the owner needs to track and hang onto his stuff better.

If it were removed from the "person" in a dark alley somewhere in Atlanta I would sign up for a self defense course or carry a "steam ray gun!"

Theft is usually a crime of opportunity. Deny the opportunity and the loss won't happen. I've displayed valuable props at cons in the past, and I can tell you, they are protected and watched constantly. You have to.

I believe the maker of the missing item is the same fella in that corner booth that has all the exorbitantly priced, but beautiful steampunk creations on display at his booth where he also, and primarily, sells corsets. I know the arms are right there on display for anyone to touch, pick up, look at, and play with. The artist is extremely cool about letting you touch his wonderful toys. I would assume that this is where it went missing from.

Just conjecture of course. It seemed like a curiosity many people have over the circumstances. Although I'm slightly dissapointed that out of all the dozens of communities this was posted on, we are the only one I've seen where people are blaming the guy for having his own stuff stolen.

C'mon guys! Seriously?
