Is there an extended version of John Williams' BINARY SUNSET?

As you can see in this clip from Star Wars, the beautiful musical piece John Williams wrote for Luke's wistful gaze at his planet's binary sunset, is just 36 seconds long.

What I'm seeking is an extended version of this same music, even if it's just a few seconds longer. In the movie, the piece ends rather abruptly as Luke turns his back to the sunset. So I suppose what I'd like to know is, if there's either an extended version, in which the music continues to swirl (to use my layman's word) longer, OR, a version that is the same length but the music ends on an up note, rather than ending so abruptly the way it does in the movie. Hope that makes sense.

A studio recording of such a version would be terrific, but even if it's a live version from a John Williams concert, I'd definitely appreciate a link. Sadly, I've never seen JW in concert, so I don't know if he only plays the 36-second version, or if he expands it for live performances. Anyone know?

Thanks!

ps~There is a piece called "Binary Sunset Alternate Version" on the ANH soundtrack (which, correct me if I'm wrong, did not appear anywhere in the film), but that is not what I'm seeking, as it is an entirely different piece of music.

the complete soundtrack I have has the combined track hologram / binary sunset and goes for 4.08 mins and yes it does have the alternate sunset track, 2004 edition 2 disk

I have that soundtrack, as well, but within that 4:08 minutes, it's only got the 36-second Binary Sunset, as heard in the clip I provided in the OP. But thanks anyway, mate.

No, I'm looking for an extended version of the Binary Sunset--one that doesn't end so abruptly after 36 seconds. (And again, not the Binary Sunset Alternate Version, as that is an entirely different piece of music.)

Agreed ,that it ,it is one continuous piece, I don't think there is an extended version as it was the second piece scored for the binary sunset John Williams would have written it for George's edit of that scene, just my guess:confused

I'm not aware of any other version. The OST version is what is heard in the film: Luke watches the sunset then goes into the garage to find 3PO hiding, the music is one continuous piece.

You guys are probably right, that no other studio (extended) version exists.

However, it seems very possible to me that JW has extended it while in concert. I've never seen JW in concert. Has anyone here seen him live? I'd like to know how he handles that 36-second piece live. Does he limit it to the 36 seconds? Or has he ever extended it in a live concert by keeping the music swirling (for lack of a better word)? And if so, are there any recordings of it?

Saw him in concert 2 years ago...fantastic it was.

Didn't play that one, but I can tell you our local orchestra was BEET RED (in the face) in the horn section when he conducted them playing the Imperial March...that was a sight.

I would love to see JW live as well , as a big fan of his music I often have ,Star Wars Raiders and his other music playing while I work, just did a quick search some live stuff on youtube nothing specific on the sunset.

Thanks, but the 36-seconds in the original are reproduced here from 00:25 to 01:01. It fizzles out at the end, in the last few seconds (00:55 to 01:01) just like it does in the last few seconds of the original. What's more, it doesn't sound as beautiful in this rendition as it does in the original.

What I want is a version where it doesn't end so abruptly after 36 seconds. If that does not exist in a studio recording, then perhaps it does in a live recording of a JW concert.

I edited the Binary Sunset theme into Light of the Force from ROTJ,....does that sound OK?

Thanks, Jaitea! What's the crack, boy?!

I must say, that was a seamless transition you created there. Very nicely done. However, the second piece--Light of the the Force--is a bit subdued for my purpose. I have another piece I'm partial to, but I don't know if it can be as seamless a continuation of the one you did above.. I'll PM it to you in a few hours, if you don't mind.

I always thought Light of the Force in its entirety is underrated and was a good evolution and "bookend" to the Force theme in the OT. I love it.

This is off the subject, but, wasn't JW originally planning some totally different bit of music during the binary sunset? And GL told him to bring up the heavy Force them?

Yeah, that's the alternate version Wook mentioned. Much more dark and brooding...
