is there a product that will mimic chrome on resin?

I know there has been much discussion about the Indy fertility idol and its shiney gold finish, and what products have been used, but is there a proven product that can be used on resin and or plastic that will give a look of a chromed finish?

thanks in advance

The best option is vacuum metalizing, but it can get costly to have it done...

I know over the years I have seen postings by members here that had local hookups for the service is some of the threads that it has popped up in... I think there was a member that was even able to get your small parts tossed into the chamber when they were doing other parts for a drastic price reduction...

Tried the Killer Chrome on a project just recently--cost me over $50.00 for one can of paint. Used it EXACTLY as instructed--Not happy at ALL. could have gotten the same results from a can of Krylon Metal paint from Home Depot.

If you have a part that is very smooth with no details, it will probably work, but for the Idol with hair and recesses--wouldnt recommend it.

Of course you wouldnt want a Chrome Indy Idol anyway!!!

Alclad II, all the way. Have used it on multiple resin items and have always been happy.

The key is surface prep and following the directions. Do those and you'll be amazed.

i've been wanting to have my men in black J2 chromes for quite some time now. I thought about hiring someone to airbrush it with the alcad if it were possible, i would hate to ruin my gun by giving it a ****ty paintjob.

if you applied the alsacorp killer chrome like spray paint , you did it wrong, you have to mist it barely, because it's a metal deposition..I use it all the time and have found no equal to it yet, it does have to be misted over a gloss black though, as do most chrome substitutes

There's been some pretty good comparisons for the two online. From what I've heard and seen in the resin mecha kit community, alclad is just as good as killer chrome, but Mirrachrome is much better, although much more expensive. Here is a good link comparing alclad, killer, and I believe a couple other chrome paints to see which is better. You may find the pics very helpful in deciding which to move towards.

:thumbsup on the Alclad, Ive used it several times, amazing stuff. 2 part, cant go wrong. Airbrush, great stuff.

whoever did that comparison on the killer chrome apparently didn't apply the killer chrome correctly, way too much.. if applied right, you can totally see your reflection... it's as it says, 95% reflective...it may be expensive, but it DOES work, so gotta give it a fair shake..I've not seen better

Here's my quick killer chrome test once again...on a blister package top for disposable respirators

Im not a newbee to the application process for the Killer Chrome. i applied it exactly as stated. I prepped the piece correctly, misted as directed and followed the instructions to the letter. For the piece I was doing it had lots of detail and was not really smooth. Im sure if there was a completely smooth piece it would have worked great, but for this one I wasnt happy at all.
Im not discounting the Killer Chrome
