Is it bad taste to wear a vader suit to comic con?

Seeing as I am not part of the 501st... Is it bad taste to wear a vader suit, when their is bound to be a 501st vader walking around?

As a member of the 501st..... wear what you want, so long as it is a public event where lots of folks are wearing costumes, and not a specific 501st event. We do not have a monopoly on wearing Imperial costumes.

But if your Vader suit is decent, why not consider joining?

I'm glad to hear you say this. I want to believe most 501st people are as awesome as you, and not like the one who had to tell my little kid how inaccurate his blaster was.

YES ,IT WAS THE TOY E11 BUT I PAINTED THE CRAP OUT OF IT, JERK!

Its not that I wouldn't want to join, but it seems to me that people choose to go the stormtrooper route because the option to troop as a vader is obviously far more limited. And I only attend a couple cons a year. My suit isn't 100% yet either.. I need to change some stuff.. It started as a Halloween costume that grew out of control. I originally bought a rubies helmet and through a series of events I ended up with a fiberglass ESB helmet and Fiberglass shoulder bells.... The helmet is still unfinished I am torn on finishing the helmet as I truly want an ANH suit..

But thank you, for your response.

And I am 6'4" 6'8"ish with the suit on...... I make a pretty menacing vader.

I just thought it might be kind of rude... seeing as most of the cons pages note... Such and such garrison will be in attendance. And the vader usually has a huge line of people flocking to take pics.

Nice! 99% of 501er's would not only encourage you to wear it, but would only offer advice on what is accurate/ how you can improve IF you asked them. They know better than anyone how much time and resources go into making a 100% accurate suit.

Sounds like you put alot of time into it and are proud of your work, you should wear it whenever you get the chance. I just started a new job, I wanted to wear a Vader suit to "set the tone".

Is the con in America? Yeah, I just checked- you can wear whatever you want.

Some people can't resist being jerks. I can't think of anyone I troop with who is like that, but I know they are out there!

Sounds awesome, man! Yeah, trooping as Vader can be more limited, if there are lots of Vaders in your area, but I would not hesitate to wear it, especially to a con. If you DO decide to join up, I'm sure you would make some imperial minions happy. Nothing more fun than trooping behind a truly menacing Vader. I usually play an imperial officer, and if Vader is around, I like to spend the day bring "Lord Vader" some bad news..... with predictable results! I have failed him "for the last time" SOOOOO often. :)

I am a member of fisd website and most of those people are on the 501rst. I have to say, I was plesenstly surprised at how great they really are and more than eager to help with any question or detail issue you may have. Unfortunately there are jerks everywhere you go, and as the saying goes, if there isn't a jerk, look in the mirror cause it might be you. Have fun with it and enjoy what you do.

@ guerrillapike ... I'd love to see some pictures of you as a menacing Vader, if you please? ... And just wear your Vader outfit whenever and enjoy :)

Wear what ever you want.
Doesn't matter if there are costuming groups present, do your own thing.

Just remember that most or these guys just buy their stuff and don't make it them selves, so they have no bragging rights.

I was one of the first dozen or so members of the 501st.
Founding member of the Golden Gate Garrison.
Haven't done anything since Ep 3.

Gotta say that i've been reading the post on FISD about the building of the Anovos suit to centurion level - which DOES NOT seem to be much deviation from the kit. That guy is fielding all questions from all levels of people (high post, low post, etc) and just being all kinds of awesome on that subject.

ANYONE who goes anywhere and tells a kid his blaster sucks, plain and simple is a dick, or worse. If he was really a member of the 501st i'd like to think behaviour like that is enough to get your membership at least threatened. There's simply no place for it unless you ask for an accuracy check.

As for bad taste - the only way it's bad taste would be if your a way out of shape vader with lots of hair and instead of the leather suite, you opt for just the codpiece. THAT would be in poor taste. Not being in a club? No where near a reason to not do it :)

Wear it! I'd love to see a tall menacing Vader. I'd like to do a Vader costume one of these days, I just don't feel I'm tall enough to do it correctly, and I'm 6'.

Definitely wear it and be proud! And don't let lack of participation at your local level discourage you either...we have a few Vaders here in CT and we take turns, have additional costumes to support each other. Unless your name is David Prowse, (or Hayden C, or James EJ) no one is exclusively Vader ;) Have fun, especially at a con!!

You could get away with some shoe lifts, I think. Me, I have to wait for the day when bionic implants are cheap and regularly available so I can chop off my stunted arms and legs to become Vader. By then, I will be more machine than man!:lol

Which Comic Con?

I just want to note that Vader is VERY HOT, and most cons are in the SUMMER. You are wearing several layers of black quilt, covered in black wool.

Please take all necessary precautions to NOT over heat!

Drink lots of water.
Have a handler at ALL times (or 2)
Wear a cool vest
take breaks
stay out of direct sunlight

This has been a public service announcement. Carry on.
