Is anybody interested in a "business" partnership...?

Well I've only just discovered this thread and have just read through all 32 pages of posts. Outstanding!

Did anything ever come of the idea to do the M90 Magnum from the Sin Episodes? That is one cool looking gun.

I've been zipping around the site for a few weeks and just stumbled upon this thread.
OMG...the creative talents on display are phenomenal!
Ramiel...you're one creative genius, followed closely by the other artisans.
I marked this thread and will keep coming back.
Soon as you open a store and start offering up these items...you may need to prepare for expansion.
I don't have your talents...but maybe I could help in the media production end of things. I've got 25 years experience in television as an anchor and reporter...I can help if you decide to go public with contacts and press releases guarnateed to get you coverage...plus, 5 years in marketing internationally through DVD's and you could always put together a DVD catalog of items for sale if it ever comes to that.
If I can help...count me in!

Hi all, I'm Jürgen from Belgium, 30-something years old. I stumbled on this thread searching on google, I can't remember what I was actually searching for because I kept looking at all the sketches, props etc.
After going thru this thread (looking at pictures, not reading every single post) I decided to register because I love what you guys are doing here and I might have an idea or two to help out.

First a little about me. I was an amature 3D modeler for about 10 years but because the lack of appreciation from the people I last tried to help out (a paying 3D VRML chat community) I quit modeling and took my website offline (http://www.vrmlcity.net if anyone heard of it). I uploaded my old website (::. Welcome to VRMLCity.net .::) so people here can have a look at the stuff I used to make, if you want to walk around the worlds and explore the objects you need a vrml plugin like BS Contact or something similar.

And now for this thread.
Don't shoot me if this was proposed already, I need to do alot of reading before being up to speed here.
It's the idea to sell the objects/props you're all designing and making. Why not devide them into different categories/themes/stories.
Here's what I mean:
Make a dragon theme for (some of) the swords, make other props like belts, badges, wristbands etc. Make up a story: The years is .... Once again the ..... are at war with the ..... You get the idea (I think).
That way you get people's imagination going, maybe people will start writing more of it making it a full story and it would make more sense as why to buy these props. You never know, maybe Spielberg will make it into a movie :love

The stampunk landspeeder, majesty raygun, Firefly inspired gun and Egyptian scarab could be in an indiana jones on steroids kinda treasure hunt story.

The pulse/phase pistol & New York based BR blaster in an evil vs good robot story, with bots kinda like Rodney Copperbottom (Robots Movie).
There are enough options to fit everything into a few stories, just use your imagination.

Use the book part as an introduction for the storylines, part examples with an option for people to write/email what they'd like to see made as props and why (what story, etc.) part catalogue to see what's for sale.

And last, why not make an updated version of "the royal analiziometer"? It looks great but there are a few things that look better in the artist drawing than in the prop (no offence, just an idea).
Seperate the tank like in the drawing, use copper (water) tubes and bends at the bottom of the tank, use leather straps to connect the tank to the device, use small copper nails around the border, make the air levels detector "turbines" seperate, add a few loose copper gears, that would make it easy to install a small electric motor for the air level detector and gears making it a "working" prop. It would look even better and lifelike than it does now without more work, just include the copper and let the buyer do the final assembly.

That's it for now, I hope you can appreciate my thoughts, if not, no big deal, I enjoyed writing this and I love the storylines flashing in my head now :lol

Just did a simple test in 3ds using the scarab and it's nearly impossible to fold the wings in the scarab the way it's designed now even without the cutting blades because they're to long.
I'll see if working with thin material (metal for strenght) so left and right side overlap might be an option.

And a quick question about the swords/props that are being made. Why not use aluminum for a limited number (5-10)? They'd be worth (alot) more, be perfect to polish to a mirror shine, not harder to shape than the plexiglass and in my opinion give the entire prop series/collection an even higher whatyamacallit and something more for collectors to look forward too till they can get the funds to buy one.

I joined this forum because I loved the "original" designs and what people were doing. After searching for ideas on the www I stumbled on some "stuff" and it turned out some of the things in this thread aren't as original as the artists make it out to be. I can't say how disappointed I am that some people first give me great ideas for a new hobby and take it away a few days later...

I think you misunderstood what they were talking about. If you'll look back on those posts you'll find most of this stuff was intended as "inspired by..." and "in the style of..." There were some originals amongs them, all were awesome the same to me :love I'm hoping someone will do something with the circle gun, cause I'm just learning this stuff so I can't make it :rolleyes

I'm not sure I understand... did you assume that prop design is not done without inspiration?

Artists have created new evolutions in design... deriving inspiration from their predecessors since the dawn of man.
As no artist here is copying, but creating their own designs as 'inspired' by art from contemporary sources... I fail to see why you are getting discouraged?
Some of these designs are more creative than their inspirations, in my opinion... which is the challenge of a GOOD designer.

Even then, 100% of these can be 'compared' with some sort of historical artifact.

^THIS^ is my favorite thing you've done (don't get me wrong, ALL your ideas are great, but I'm a Blade Runner fanatic). While I was looking at the design, it occurred to me that the angle of the handle appeared odd. I made some adjustments to your design just to see how it would look (hope that's all right :$):

Would LOVE to see this piece get made...

I'm about a month from having my CNC mill up and running. I would love to make this one, I've liked it for years and it's always been in the back of my mind. I like the original, but the angle on the modded one just seems to fit better.

Is there any kind of functional description to this piece? Like how the parts move and what they're supposed to do?

I'm a professional voice over artist and musician/composer. I also own and run a recording studio. I'll pitch in any music, editing, voicing and mixing of whatever film comes out of this project. ;-)

As a small business owner myself I would like to caution you on getting too many people involved in a project like this. Something like this is fun and a great way to build friendships.... until money starts to be made. If you have to many fingers in that pie things will not go well, and they will go south quick. Before you go much further you need to create a business plan, hierarchy of operations and watch what sketches you post on this forum or any other. Copy write for artists are a very screwy thing. every time your piece is replicated on the internet you have to document it as soon as you are notified. If it is being used without your permission or being created for someone else to make profit, you don't have to threaten to sue... by law you are required to or lose your right to that creative license. Look up as much as you can about your rights an legal needs.

I have know many aspiring artist that have posted on places like Deviant art and found out too late that they don't have many rights left to that piece. Also if you do move forward with something like this. Contracts are your friend, not the buddy that is going to "help" you. every independent contractor you collaborate with, for your protection and tax purposes, will need to have a contract signed and tax information given. If you don't do this before money starts flowing... you will find yourself in a world of problems. The business part of small businesses is usually what kills them.

33 pages, butt load of awesome concept pictures, and 6 years later this is still the best Necro bump I enjoy seeing.

Also, I think there has been one run associated with this project and it went well to the best of my knowledge. For the most part these are cool cats that roam and contribute here. :thumbsup

hub gun where! 003.JPGhub gun where! 001.JPGThis thread was incredible. I wish It had stayed alive. I bought one of the coop props that came from the original design.

I think I still have the Hub Gun schematics that have since been deleted. That gun was frigging bad ass. I need to take some initiative and make it myself, that was a brilliant design.
