Hi everyone
I just started making new helmet last 6-Nov as my perfectionist brother handed me over the MK8 pep he assembled. I believe he used the pep model made by Labsic.
When I first saw the completed MK8 pep he made, I told myself "this will take a lot of work to make it as accurate as I possibly can".
So I started the resining process and put some markings to portion that needed attention.
Then first coat of body filler...
I put a lot of body filler on the top of the helm (near back side) to make it more round
Also cut and re-attached the chin to correct the under-bite form...
I used fiberglass to re-attached the chin...
I put more body filler...
And more body filler on both sides to widen the helm... notice the ear pods are now buried in body filler... I just have to make new ear pods later...
Lots of sanding and body filler have been done...
I have made a new ear pods from body filler...
I only worked on one side of the helm...
This is the result of 1-week of work...
Then the biggest shock of my life dawned on me when I checked my 1-week of work and compare it to the reference photos I have...:eek
I found too many inaccuracy as you can see from the pencil mark I put on the helm...
I am not liking where I'm going on this project and really wanted to just throw away this MK8 helm...
Finally I decided not to push thru making this MK8 helm...:unsure
AND JUST MAKE AN IRON PATRIOT HELM OUT OF IT...:thumbsup
So at the beginning of the 2nd week I cut the ear pods off... and draw the outline of Iron Patriot helm...
Cut the cheek part
Put more body filler and extended the jaw...
Sanding - body filler - sanding - body filler...
Draw the detail lines just to see how it looks...:love
I made a side-by-side comparison of my work with the reference photo I have to check if the overall shape of my helm is correct...
And super-imposed the 2...
I am happy with the result...:thumbsup
So after 1-week of conversion process, this is the result I have...:love
All I have to do now is to copy all the details I made from the left side to the right side making sure of the symmetry...
From the start to now I have used 2 cans of body filler... the helm weighs 2 kilos already :cry
And for everyone's info, I only used 1 grade of sandpaper (grit 60)... will proceed to grit 100, 240 for finer details.
More to come soon...
Thanks for watching and for your time.
