Ironman foam first ever build!! COMPLETED!!

Re: Ironman foam first ever build!! Suit up and repulsor test video!

This is an awesome build, I can't wait for the final painted and suit up

Re: Ironman foam first ever build!! Suit up and repulsor test video!

I have an idea for the repulser I'm going to try putting the micro switch that is located in the back of the small flashlight under the plastic covering and insert it between the thumb and for finger. I'll post pics on my build page when I get around to starting the gauntlets.

Re: Ironman foam first ever build!! Suit up and repulsor test video!

Here is a pic of the micro switch from the back of led flashlight. I mounted the switch just under the bottom of the chest plate so I could turn the lights on and off. Thinking of doing g the same for the gloves in the foam on the side of the thumb. I'll put more updates on my build thread later tonight.

Re: Ironman foam first ever build!! Suit up and repulsor test video!

Hey Mactonto, I plan on doing something similar with the repulsors for my stepdaughters suit by using the same switch from the torches I'm canabalising to make the repulsors. I plan on using a Coke bottle lid to house the LED and M/B, back the lid with foam with a small hole for the wires, then mounting the switch to the back of the foam piece so that it will sit on the inside of the hand. Then she will just need to push her two hands together to activate both repulsors, then push them together again to turn them off. Should make it easy for her to do (seeing as she's only 8) and give us the ability to turn them on and off at will.

Re: Ironman foam first ever build!! Suit up and repulsor test video!

Those are good ideas but I wanted a momentary switch so the lights were only on while my hand was raised.

Looking good. I am about to embark on a Mark 7 thanks to Shark and Xrobots inspiring work. Anything I should be wary of?

Re: Ironman foam first ever build!! Suit up and repulsor test video!

Just every mistake I have made along the way! Haha.
#1 please please please DON'T build the helmet first. Trust me. You will want to. But it required perfect cuts and glueing to look decent. You will build those skills as you go. :)

Yeah, I want that too when/if I make up a suit for myself. I was thinking about using a switch similiar to this:

Placed so that the trigger sits at the far end of the handplate and will depress when my hand pulls back. Or possibly even a reed switch, which is what I plan on using on the helmet to light up the eyes when the faceplate closes.

First boot is done!

Just one more boot, 5 fingers and the brace left to build!!
Also, almost everything is coated in plastidip and some parts are painted in primer. So I whole heartily plan on starting paint by next weekend! O_O

Re: Ironman foam first ever build!! Suit up and repulsor test video!

I am doing something somewhat similar with my glove/repulsor setup. I am also using a 9-LED Flashlight. I however am using the clear lid from a bottle of water as the "lens" for the repulsor. I'm using two momentary switches mounted inside the glove, at the area just below my middle and ring fingers so that a slight flexing of my hand triggers the switches simultaneously. Reason for two switches...one for the light and the other for the sound board that plays the repulsor sound effect. Hope to wrap up the construction of the second glove this week and will try to take pics. The right one is finished and works great.

Re: Ironman foam first ever build!! Suit up and repulsor test video!

I still need to redo the abs (just the red part) I decided it will look better with thicker foam. And build the brace. (no big deal) othe than that EVERYTHING IS BUILT!!!

Right now, the right shin, back of both boots, both forearms and the left hand are hanging up with the primer drying. The front of both boots have the plastudip drying. But the rest is laid out waiting for paint. Due to a financial emergency, I don't have the money to buy the paint untill this Friday. >_< But here are the finished pieces laid out! =D
