Iron-Panther coming to a close

Re: Iron-Panther just became a speed build

well I managed to get the first layer of black foam onto my abs

and here is a better pic of the abs and chest so you can see them without them blending into each other

gonna add another layer to the front of the lower torso when I get up, and put a layer on the chest, got the forearms almost ready for their quick foam skin, then it's onto rebuilding the shins and hopefully getting the rest of my upper torso done, I'm also going to have my original upper torso ready to go as an emergency backup, but if there's not enough time them I'm gonna have to make do with what I got

Re: Iron-Panther just became a speed build

Any updates on this yet man? its looking really good

Re: Iron-Panther just became a speed build

actually ive been working on it slowly, i go stuck working on where to split my helm to get the faceplate past the ears, then it hit me, so tomorrow ill give it a shot and if it works ill post pics of there im at so far

Re: Iron-Panther just became a speed build

Just got my servo and arduino, no sleep for me tonight but tomorrow ill hae pics and maybe a movie of the helmet wired up and opening (cross fingers & pray)

Re: Iron-Panther just became a speed build

ok been up all night and cant figure this out, i have an arduino micro with headers attached, do i need to use a breadboard to make this work or should i just go buy a different arduino? heres what i have

and if so can someone help me figure out how to mount the arduino to the board and make the servo open my faceplate with the eyes lighting up like in 7sinzz thread http://www.therpf.com/f24/iron-man-motorised-faceplate-electronics-tutorial-170853/

Re: Iron-Panther just became a speed build

disregard last post exchanged my micro for an uno, now just trying to figure out where i went wrong with the connections to get it to work, gonna strip it back to one and start over, reconnect everything and see if that works, yay for another sleepless night

Re: Iron-Panther just became a speed build

time to take stock of whats been done so far and whats still needed so here goes
helmet model - check; pepped - on hold
neck seal - no
upper torso - check, thanks ironleoman for the chest piece

lower torso foamed - check
forearms - check, foam - no
cod - check, foam - no
helmet built - kinda
thighs - no
shins - left yes right no
boots - left yes right no
hinges - no control system for lights and animatronics - not even close, major roadblocks right now
basically i have just reminded myself how much work i have NOT done, sigh gues its time to get to the grind stone, i missed the premiere but the Iron Panther WILL make A-Kon in a month, even if i have to buy and express ship an electronics system and install it while my friend drives to dallas
oh and first shin AND IT FITS!!!!!!! FINALLY A PIECE I DIDNT HAVE TO REMAKE MULTIPLE TIMES

Re: Iron-Panther starting to get interesting

as promised here's an update, as you can see, my mannequin, henceforth referred to as "Jerry" is modelling the latest in hybrid Stark/Wakandan technologies the fabricators have built a prototype helmet, to test a new helmet opening mechanism in the works, also the upper torso armour, outsourced to ironmaided, has been received and integrated to the basic suit. Shin armours nearing completion, and a customized abdominal plate built from scratch. Remaining fabrications include the thigh armours, ankle and foot flaps, the left bicep, neckseal, elbow plates, and hinges/joint covers for the knees and elbows. Not shown is the codpiece, due to a slight discrepancy in the undercarrisage area certain "discomforts" have lead to a complete overhaul of that section, completion of the new codpiece is expected within the next 48 hrs
meanwhile here is a shot of "Jerry" wearing the incomplete suit

here is a closeup of the prototype helmet before it goes in for animation and final details

side view

the ears still need to be bulked up and hollowed out to fit the electronics, and match the overall look of the hemlet also, still need to affix the cheek and jaw area details, and figure out how to fabricate the 2.0 version of this helmet (thanks skyludesigns) for full animation and lighting, build the endoskeleton undersuit. well its not a huge update, since i decided to show everything in one picture for now, but as things get painted and wired up i will be posting individual pieces before the final big reveal, hopefully i can get this one to dallas for a-kon this year, if not i'll definitely not be a happy person, but at least ill have an original costume

had to rebuild my arm today, I like the look of the new arm piece so I'm going to rebuild the other arm. also, sigh, figuring out a new opening mechanism for my helmet, since the ears make the normal setup impossible

Re: Iron-Panther starting to get interesting

Looks good man! ears are a bit round maybe sharpen them a bit? apart from that its looking gorgeous!

Re: Iron-Panther starting to get interesting

yeah this helmet is just a test helmet to make sure the look works with the opening mechanism, the ears are gonna be roughly in the same place so i just mocked-up quick piece to check the process i remade the other arm and have finished both thighs so now all i have to build are the shoulders, boots, elbows and joint covers then ill be ready for paint, heres the thighs i literally just finished them about 10 minutes ago,

ill be osting a partial suitup (cant wait any longer) a little later or early tomorrow morning

Re: Iron-Panther starting to get interesting

got the shoulders finished before bed last night, no one to help me with the suitup for another 7 hours so gues sill just have to do it tonight.
anyway attached the shoulders to the chest piece with elastic bands to see ho it will move and whether i need to change it, not sure may just attach them to the biceps after suiting up and seeing how they move.
anyway heres a pic of them attached to the chest

and here's Jerry modeling the suit as it stands when i woke up about an hour ago, the thighs need to be bolted to the shin pieces and the same with the forearms and biceps. still need to do neckseal, boots, gloves (have to freehand those since they are gonna have to be custom), joint covers, and stop stalling on figuring out the new system for my helmets one of a kind opening mechanism

looking at it all togethere im not entirely sure i like the fit of the shoulders, ill know for sure once i strap it all on, then decide
its finally nearing completion, guess ill have to start a new project, maybe finish my space marine or start something new that ive been dying to work on

Re: Iron-Panther starting to get interesting

well here's the suit-up of the armour, i used a combination of mark 2, 7, and iron patriot to make this a reality. I'm trying to figure out how to make the chest from the Gemini mesh with the back of say the mark 7 or maybe the bleeding edge if i can figure out how to make it in pep or 3d modelling, curse my lack of skills, the cod and shoulders are missing because my codpiece was too small and split the first time i tried it on so im making that piece bigger, as for the abs i still havent figured out how to attach it convincngly to the upper torso and how to close the piece around my waistline, although im thinking of using stealths velcro fastener process so i can finish that area off and move on to final details, paint and finishing

Re: Iron-Panther starting to get interesting

very nice concept. all the luck to u. building a hybrid armor is great isnt it! hahahaha!

its more like trying to find the specific toy your kid wants at christmas, but the toy he wants has like 215 variations and he wants one specific one but thats the one thats always sold out unless you know someone who works there lol
