Iron Man

so when do you take the supports out?
and i dont understand what you said haha.

When the fiber resin is completely cured and your helmet or part is SOLID and doesn't bend ;)

Also, regarding what I wrote:

print the support thing on two pieces of paper.

Take paper 1:

_____ take paper 2 _____________

now get another piece of paper.

put close pap 1 and pap 2 like this:

__________ ______________ make them touch and put them really close to each other, make them TOUCH.

One you've done use the 3rd piece like this:
............_____________............
_____________ ______________

Tape the third paper ON TOP of the two others. The third one will be your connection/bridge/binder or whatever to HOLD those two together in a straight line...more or less!

I'm off to bed!
Hope you get everything right ;)

Although I haven't done an IM helmet I think depending on the pep supports are REALLY important. I've cut out even thicker cardboard, from packaging boxes and stuck those in for supports. The last thing you want is a warped helmet after it cures.

oh i see now, before you said through the paper, and so i was confused.
got it.
i'll try to get some supplies whenever and try this out :D

In the 2D pattern window there's an option that says "Recalculate parts layout". From there you can change how big it is. It will let you choose either how wide, or how tall the piece will be when it's put together in real life.

hey guys im working on the helmet with hama900, finishing the helmet model with paper tonight :D thnx for all the help.

It could just be me, but isn't it more work to do a pep than to sculpt and mold and cast a part??

Just you. :) I had mine peped in a night and the bodywork done in about two days of work, if I had two days to spend on it straight. Molded in one day and ready to cast. ;)

Alright Guys,

The Moment of Truth :confused

Me, Mahero and Sozdar have been working on our Iron Man build and this is what we got so far :D

First of all i want to thank a few people who have helped us to get started

This Kickass forum for starters!!

Zabana - Helped us prepare and took alot of time in helping me and gave alot of kickass advice, headers and tips, and eventhough im a pain in the ass he still keeps on helping, awesome guy! :rolleyes

Finhead - For the awesome tutorial he posted and gave us good tips on how to resin properly and wether to add fiberglass on in or outside.:)

Stealth - Provided an awesome youtube video wich showed the materials properly

Gemini Khan - Helped us out alot on what kind of paper we should use and fixed sum of my mistakes :lol

So what we did was, printed using Pepakura on 240g paper and made the Iron man Faceplate first, We went and bought some Fiberglass and Resin and we Resin'd the outer part (1 layer, we'll add another layer tomorrow because it was gettin dark and it took too long for the resin to dry) Added 1 layer of Fiberglass on the INSIDE of the helmet along with a layer of Resin on top of it!

Pictures ----------------------------------------------

As you can see, the fiberglass hairs kinda spill on the outside of the mask, is that a problem or can i cut them off when it dries ?

You can just cut them with scissors ;)
You know what though? If I were you, I'd pepped the entire thing,in order to keep the faceplate in shape to fit the rest of the helmet.

Doing the faceplate only is risky, I think. It may come out too wide or too narrow since it does not have any support.

But I'm not expert, so Finhead, Stealth your advice is needed here :D

Btw, If all the people that use other's advices and hints were like you guys, this would be a even better place! :D Thanks for thanking, really ;)
