Iron Man

sorry if i'm being a pain haha
but what exactly are the steps in this "pepakura" stuff.
i know that you gotta print the stuff out and cut it up and glue it together
then what? what exactly is 'resin'? and what do you do after that? how do you get to the finished product?

You can't see pics in my thread at the moment (bandwidth is toast) but I do have the steps in there read through it and you'll figure it out.

From what i understand so far >

-You need 80gr cardboard paper first

-Print out the model on the cardboard using pepkura

-Buy Fiberglass ( its a tissue-ish material ) and Polyester Resin ( resin is somewhat a hardener so to say and its the glue in this case for the fiberglass to stick on and harden the helmet)

-and apply the fiberglass on the inside of the helmet and on the outside you ONLY APPLY RESIN not fiberglass.

-Afterwards you use bodyfiller/bondo to clear it up and then with sandpaper you make it nice and smooth

-paint job and done.

Im a noob at this too so i dont EXACTLY know if i got this right..

Ok you guys missed a few important steps, really if you read my thread it's in there. But you must resin the outside of the piece first, before putting glass on the inside or you will have a mess of warped parts. I usually go with 2-3 coats (let dry between) of resin on the outside first.

when you're gluing the pepakura together.
do you just use like normal school glue? or super glue? or a hot glue gun?

I use superglue gel, Stealth uses hot glue do not use normal school glue it will make your piece soggy and warped.

Hama, use 240 gr paper!
Holds way better than 80 gr paper. 80 gr paper is a regular piece of paper you'd use in printing a letter.

Instead you need 240 gr paper.

the 80 gr is the thickness of the fiberglass mat or tissue or whatever.

i also noticed (finhead) that in the pep files, there are like support bars keeping the paper from folding in i guess? when is it okay to take those out once you print it and stuff?

and in the chest file, i noticed that a few of the cutouts carry over onto 2 pages, what do you do about that?
sorry for all of the questions

Personally i use Super glue, but it doesnt really matter i think aslong as the glue is strong enough to hold it together like a brick wall :D !

keep in mind when you use the resin it will get kinda soaked up, so dont try with tape

240g got it gemini Thanks!
was the rest good ?

btw finhead, its rly a shame i cant see anything on your thread i really want too see it but the bandwith is exceeded :(

1. Ok, the fiberglass is need on the inside to stiffen REALLY GOOD THE PARTS.
If you do pass only the resin, the structure won't hold up good when you work with bondo.

2. 110 LB is good paper, I think almost everybody here used that (as for US users)

3. When you have only one pep file for couple parts of the body, there is a option that makes the pattern flip...let me check that for you...ok, go to 2d menu and click on invert pattern.

I think this answer all your questions...

So 240gr for 1 A4 paper?

OH and one more sorry haha.
a lot of people say how the original scale didnt work for them, so they made it 1.5 or 1.4 or 1.9 or something
hwo do you change the scale? and what would be a good scale for someone about 5'9''

Yes Hama ;)
Charlie, I've seen what you're talking about. Well, use some fantasy. Print it in two papers, then use a third one to hold the firt two together. Tape both papers together THROUGH the third one. I don't know if I make myself clear...

Don't know about the scale thing..there's on the 2D menu an option...scale bla bla bla.
But dude, I don't know what scale will fit you...
I'm sure a lot of guys here when through a lot of trial and error before getting the right scale. See if any of them can reply here or you could ask, Finhead, Stealth o Starx I think. ;)
