I've seen several copies of the Sideshow Iron Man bust on the Bay. They are being marketed as 'model kits' but are totally recasts of the Sideshow bust. Looks like two different sellers offering them.
I wanted to check with you guys first....just look up 'Iron Man Replica' and you will see what I mean.
It sucks because we have so many gifted artists here who sculpt and recreate the armor from NOTHING and someone else thinks he has the right to recast something and sell it....:sick

Yeah there are a few recast kits of the sideshow bust out there.. All from Asia somewhere I believe. Seems alot of busts get turned into vinyl kits over there...

you know it had to happen. Now is their time to make money off the general public while it's hot. And it's simple math , either pay 500.00 plus for the MR or below 300 for a recast. I can see why people will buying it.

It happens all the time with 1:1 scale licensed replicas...

The Noble TDK cowl and MR Vader ROTS helmet are pretty common as well.

Just curious - what's the difference between vinyl and resin? I don't think I've ever handled a vinyl prop replica, are there certain benefits to that medium?

Vinyl castings are a softer plastic, usually hollow. They are more expensive to make because they require the use of metal molds. Vinyl shrinks more than resin and finer details are difficult to replicate. Resin is more durable (or brittle) and less expensive.

I knew there were recasters out there - just never really seen such a high-profile licensed replica recasted like that before.
