Iron man motorised faceplate electronics tutorial!!!

Thanks for the comments heavymetal'

13kg? You could lift a brick with that lol.
Not bad price though. Wonder what the quality is like.

lol, yeah I thought it the torque power might be a bit too much for requirements.

I have my Arduino software downloaded now and the Uno is up and running. Hoping to get a few more bits at the weekend.

damn theres a lot of info here! gotta look at it proper when i have the time!

First post is pretty much all ya need for now.

As for size of servo for resin faceplate, i shall wait for someone else to reply to that, but I'd assume the 13kg one listed just above would do the trick.

Also, it's IRONLEOMANS birthday today. Everyone wish him happy birthday please. Even if your just lurkin.

4 hours plastic coating done today. Helmet is almost ready to start installing electronics.

That's awesome matey! I went to Maplin today to find some bits for the electronics but they didn't quite have what I need so going to order through ebay. Spoke to XRobots on Facebook and he said these servos should be good enough:

Turnigy TGY-R5180MG 180 Degree MG Analog Servo perfect for pan and tilt cameras | eBay

Also, have you seen his hinge solution for his helmet? Uses one servo on the peek section and one on the faceplate with a metal hinge between the two. Wonder if the code was tweaked, could be an option??

Not sure if you guys all have this but this Arduino guide might come in handy during this project, i've attached it to this message. I've also got a friend with a few Arduino boards i've been speaking to today and he might be able to help with bits.

Thanks for the pdf!! Very helpfull!

Hi All,

This is a great thread.

Does anybody know how a reed switch works with a servo? I know that you hold a magnet to the reed switch and it works the item but how does it go back to the regional position. I am using a Servo Controller Board from mindset. Any help would be great.

the reed switch is like a tact switch i think just replace the switch with a reed switch i used reed switch in my suit when start up :) :thumbsup

Just replace the switch in the circuit with 1 reed switch. Just one. It acts exactly the same.

When you press and release the push button, the circuit is made briefly and the code is designed to move the servos and switch the lights on/off. Press it briefly again and the momentum reverses. It does not need to be kept pressed down.

When you place a magnet near the reed switch, then move it away, the circuit is made briefly and the code is designed to move the servos and turn the lights on/off. Put the magnet near the SAME reed switch again and the momentum reverses. The connection does not need to be constant.

Literally just put the reed where the switch is.
