Iron-Man MKVII FOAM WIP [REPAIR PROGRESS]

Re: Iron-Man MKVII FOAM WIP [PIC HEAVY]

I'm sure it happens elsewhere as well, but in the States we have a lot of products that are epoxy-branded but only a single-stage mix. I've used the product Kwratster is talking about, and while fairly durable it is nowhere near the hardened epoxy finishes on appliances. As I recall, it also didn't like dry-paper sanding very much.

The stuff Mig407 is talking about is a two-part (or should be) epoxy. We rolled the old garage in the plain grey (what I bought was available in a grey, or a grey with speckling at the time), and that stuff was VERY VERY durable. You also weren't going to get it back off if you changed your mind :lol

Anyways, my point is that we have stuff sold here as an epoxy-finish that has all different levels of durability, including two-stage mixes right down to regular aerosols. I would bet something like the floor epoxy Mig407 mentioned could be used, mine did self-level and kept some flexibility while be nails-tough. I don't know how well it would accept primer and paint, though. I'd be worried about applying that stuff, and then finding out nothing will stick to it.

So, how about a half dozen of us pay maided to send us a couple of drums, and then will split it up here. Problem solved.:cheers

I think you typed my name on accident. I have no clue about epoxy's well not much about different types anyway.

Re: Iron-Man MKVII FOAM WIP [PIC HEAVY]

Yep, aquapoxy would work, and that stuff can be used indoors. It can cleans up with soap and water. Good find!

The Sphero is a bisphenol-A type of epoxy resin, which is the most common type of two-part epoxy resin produced. I'm sure that different manufacturers have different ingredients and ratios, but I'd like to think most of the type-A 2 part primers will be the same. Rustoleum's Epoxyshield line of epoxy coatings are also 2-part bisphenol-A resin kits, and they are water-based like Aquapoxy.

Yep, my bad. I had scrolled up, saw the quote and then your name to the left. It was Born1977's post that you'd quoted in your own :)

Re: Iron-Man MKVII FOAM WIP [PIC HEAVY]

Hi
very nice ....I am looking for new project from foam... Can you share with me Iron Patriot foam files? It will be my first one(I have experience but with halo armors).
Pls contact with me :)
Sick of Iron-Man? Well here's another one from me :) This will be the 6th suit to stand in my soon-to-be-build personal hall of armor, consisting of my previous suits namely (in order according to their completion) Iron Patriot, Mark 17 "Heartbreaker", Mark 5, Mark 39 "Sub-Orbital Suit" (WIP) and Mark 16 "Nightclub" (WIP).

As for now, all of my suits are waiting to be placed inside their respective shelves, well ofcourse I still need to work on that.

For this Foam Mark 7 Project, I will use JFCustom's awesome unfold of JTM's Mark 7 Model, JFcustom's unfold of Darkside's Mark 7 Helmet and Neck. And of course Zabana's Hand and Finger files.

So far here's what I've built.

I'm in the process of cutting the template for the neck piece.

Thanks for viewing! :)

Re: Iron-Man MKVII FOAM WIP [PIC HEAVY]

What's the pot life like? The website for the AQUAPOXY just says "long pot life", and I'm making an assumption that the Sphero is similar. I'm currently using multiple layers of Rondo and I've been happy with the results, but this intrigues me.

Re: Iron-Man MKVII FOAM WIP [UPDATES]

UPDATE 03-17-14

I finally managed to solve my Mark 7 Boot Problem :) By using Darkside501st's Modified Zabana Boots. I rescaled them on 3ds max to fit JTM's model flawlessly.

Can I ask, what parts did you have to rescale on the boot exactly? I'm trying to modify the same boot pattern by hand to fit my shin and was curious what alterations you did to make them work for you.

Ok time for some. . .

I'm repairing my epoxy primed finished Mark 7 for a back-to-back-to-back birthday parties that I need to attend on saturday (morning and afternoon) and sunday, the suit was badly damaged during the storm last July that damaged and flooded my workshop.

The helmet is way beyond repair, even the electronics inside (LED lights). Moss all around the chest and the shoulder area, and the hand repulsors are damaged also. A lot of work to do to make this costume good as new again. Since I just have 2 days to repair this. Since I'm just waiting for updates from the post office regarding those shipments I've made (a mark 42 will arrive next week, also a batch of starlord helmets will arrive next week to its destination, also, a mark 17 will arrive next week to its destination), instead of waiting and doing nothing, why not repair the suit now! :)

So earlier, I made the new chest piece (JFcustom's unfold of JTM's model) and base coated it with silver. I also built two shoulder bells, epoxy primed them and is ready to sand. Here's the suit so far.

Here's the old chest plate, I attempted to repair it using epoxy primer but no luck, the foam itself is weak for the epoxy primer because of the wet damage from the typhoon.

As of the moment, I'm making a new foam helmet, and at the same time, a cardboard helmet for future purposes. :) Will post updates soon, this will be a 2 day repair progress so I just hope I finish this on time. I missed building Iron-Man stuffs for myself :lol

Thanks for viewing my necro-thread :thumbsup

Wow, that looks really nice :eek Sucks that your suit got damaged but I'm pretty sure you'll have it up and running in no time :D

I've never worked with foam before, but how the heck did you get your foam to have that look? It practically looks like a fiberglass suit if I didn't know any better.

New foam helmet done in its raw stage. . .i was supposed to make a fiberglassed cardboard helmet but since i'm on a rush this foam helmet will do fine, just need to coat it with epoxy primer

I've got the Mark 7 repaired just in time for the back-to-back-to-back birthday appearance. Not bad for a rushed build/repair. I didn't build some new set of fingers because they will limit my hand mobility.

Here are some shots from the first party last saturday morning. I haven't slept for 2 days straight because of this guy. :facepalm

*slowly uploading pictures because of the weak wifi connection here at the post office, i'm here to check some updates on my shipments :thumbsup *

This is the first time I suited up in an open area, no aircon but luckily the weather isn't that bad that time. Me and my buddy Iron-Patriot (suit made by me by the way) had a great time with the kids, and the kids-at-heart :lol Thanks for viewing!

Great build and great looking suit. Looks like a lot of fun at the parties. Love the full set of armours as well.

Helmet rebuild looks really good too. Have you any tips for working on the helmet? I'm trying to put together mine at the moment and having some issues with the bottom of the faceplate reaching and lining up with the chin.
