Iron Man MKV Briefcase 3d Print Sizing

So I started to 3d print a Iron Man MKV briefcase and after the top half was done it seem too small. After looking at screen shots from the movie it seemed really small.

After looking at screen shots I came up with this method on how to get a rough size. In this shot Happy is standing pretty darn close to that door hinge. A door hinge with 4 screws is normally 4 inches tall. So with a simply copy and paste I got this:

The briefcase is about 4 hinges by 6.6 hinges. Making it about 16X26, I was thinking of making it 16X24 as 26 inches wide seemed too big and in the width picture he is holding it closer to the camera.

Thoughts? or does anyone have the actual dimensions of the briefcase?

If thats the one Do3D sells, its the file i commissioned.
Yea they sent it to me small as well. I had a chance this past weekend to measure the screen used one and the dimensions were 13" tall by 20" long. I couldnt get an accurate depth case it was in a glass case but it was THICK! my guess would be 6-7"

I kept mine small, it works great as a suitcase for work :)

Here's another size check for you that might be more accurate than guessing with a hinge.

Jon Favreau is 6'1" tall. We can use this picture to establish how long his upper arm is relative to his height (the pose has him holding the dry cleaning in a similar pose to how he holds the briefcase):
iron-man_tony-stark_robert-downey-jr.jpg

In the picture, Jon looks to be about 800px tall (he's mid stride, took my measurement somewhere between his feet). 800px/(6*12 + 1 inches) = 10.95px/inch. His upper arm from shoulder to elbow is somewhere around 142px. 142px/10.95 = 12.96 inches. We'll round up and say 13".

We can take that 13" measurement and go back to your initial picture.
Iron+MAn+2+Jon+Favreau.jpg

Our 13" upper arm is about 230px in this shot. Looking at the back of the suitcase (which is closer in camera perspective to his upper arm) and doing a little bit of photoshop to re-build where the corner of the suitcase would be, we see it's also about 230px tall... which conveniently saves us the math of figuring out it's also 13" tall.

We can then use that 13" to calculate the thick of the suitcase at the front. Measuring down the center of the side, it's about 250px tall. So 250px/13inches = 19.23px/inch in the front of the shot. The thickness of the suitcase in the middle is about 70px, so 70px/19.23 = 3.64" thick.

So the last dimension is the width, which I don't think this shot will be very useful for, so lets grab another picture.

In this shot, the suitcase is about 505px tall, measured from the center. We already know that's 13", so 505px/13" = 38.84px/inch. Measuring the width from the top (just after the curved part) is 838px, so 838px/38.84 = 21.57 inches wide.

So my final guess of the dimensions is 13"x21.5"x3.64". Very close to Sunkistshark 's measurements in everything except depth.

Yes this is the do3d one, it seems to be the most accurate one I could find. Good thing my printer was acting up or I would have already been printing it too big.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help you guys!

Hi!
Completely new here. This is my first post, so if I'm doing anything wrong please don't hesitate to let me know.
Just thought I'd give you this link since it gives you every view of the briefcase and even shows you how it assembles, which not going to lie, I totally geeked out over. The guy who did the original concept art is named George Hull. I recommend checking out his website since his art is amazing.
The link I attached is a super helpful blog that just so happened to compile all of Hull's art into one page, as well as a picture of the actual briefcase from top, front and side view.

Hope this helped and good luck!

Thanks :) I slaved over my computer getting reference pics for accuracy. It was my first time dealing with the guys at d03d directly. It was a pain in the ass, their first “final render” was horrid. They didn’t even try and look at my pictures. Then I pointed out about 10 areas to change and they fixed 4... lol. So back and forth took forever to get the other spots addressed.
I’m very happy with it.
