Iron Man Mk6 - 2nd suit

Hi guys,

Some of you may remember me from a while back... I made an Iron Man suit MK6 via pepakura/fiberglass/body filler route.

I have now started making my 2nd Iron Man suit. I'm going to make another MK6 (my fav) but this time using the foam method.
I'll be making the helmet the way I first did it, filler and sand it down.
I've made the chest and back in foam and i'll post pics later.

Here are some pics of my first suit, and some pics of my 2nd helmet in progress.

well my advice would be to put really thin coat on the helm and to apply them by PARTS not the whole thing directly !
you should sand it with 60-80 grit then 120 grit the 320 grit and then wet sand it with some 600 and 800 grit

good luck with this build !

I wanted to test the paint out so I did it on the gloves first. I have covered the foam in 3 coats of PVA glue, then use red primer, red paint and then coat of clear lacquer and the results are great! Lovely finish and nice and shiney :) ignore the spongebob pj's ;)

You got that finished without like plastidip or something?!? God, all the money I wasted >.< Good build, I cant believe that in the time its taken me to build 1 foam suit you've built a bondo and a foam suit (In my defense it is at my dad's, where I only go about twice a month)... Great job here though, looking forward to seeing the whole thing done up :)

Thanks :)

Right i've finished painting the arms. I've used red prime for the whole suit. I have tested this for the prime under red gold and silver paint and it looks great with all of them.

I did the biceps first and noticed how good they look with red on gold instead of gold and silver haha but here are a few update pics.

I also used a couple coats of clear lacquer which gives it that extra shine.

Thanks guys,

I'm concentrating a bit more on the little details between the gaps on the arms and legs etc.
I went out and bought these from Homebase UK -

I'm using the smaller tubing for the fingers between the finger pieces (pics to come) and the large shiney metal tubing between the arm pieces:

On the MK6, the gaps between the arms are gold, but this has such as nice silver shine to it i'm thinking of just leaving it silver. Thoughts?

Keep up the good work mate... wow you're on your second suit and I'm still on my first Mk6... I'll be fiber glassing pretty soon so I'll post some pictures :)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep it silver :) I might see what its like on the back of the legs behind the knee's. I'll keep you posted.

I'm doing:
3 coats of PVA glue on every piece
2 coats of Primer
2 coats of Paint
2 coats of Clear Lacquer

Everything seems to have a nice shine to it :)

Hey man how are ya? The above steps, how does it hold up against rubbing against itself? Love your work...GM

Looking good mate, you dont hang about! Was the blue foam you used kinda spongey? If so, how did it take to the pva?

Slightly spongey and its just the foam camping mats mate. The pva goes on well with 3 even coats and the foam turned out harder and more wearable.
